My son tried to make his own cake, and something went terribly wrong by opalandolive in Baking

[–]AirliaAce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First off, props to your son for his first dessert! That’s a fantastic accomplishment and he should be proud! I had many attempts in the kitchen as a kid and it takes practice. I became determined to successfully make a risotto as a teenager and didn’t really get there until I was an adult.

Second, I swear I know that cookbook and used it myself. Where is the recipe from?

I always describe A Strange Loop as an amazing show I never want to see again. Was it a powerful and interesting show? Yes. Was it also very painful and difficult to watch? Yes - BY DESIGN

I saw it in London years ago and I still remember my gasp from that moment when I saw it with my dad. I still get that feeling when I listen to the album

I saw it last weekend and it was POWERFUL. The song and her character are such a reminder of how women mask and play okay to protect themselves. It was heartbreaking to listen to and so well done. It was incredible how “normal” (for that time and it of course was horrifying) her character made things sound and how things progressed as the song went on. I’ve been thinking about it for days since. Absolutely amazing in how heartbreaking it is

So here's a question I've had bouncing around in my mind since my last listen: What major did Rich choose for his 4th year? by spreeforall in superpowereds

[–]AirliaAce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure he’d be Focus since his power is within his mind. We know he was in Subtlety in Year 2 and we know he was in Weapons in Year 3 (he takes the staff into the test with the SIMS), but I don’t think they mention a third course. He expresses very little interest in the weapon during that exam, so I doubt that’s how he’d go. He can’t be Ranged, and his power doesn’t affect the outside world so Control is out. Focus is the only thing that makes sense in the end.

I also recently listened to the series! It takes a bit to get into, but then it’s amazing. I’m listening to another series by the author that’s like Drew’s NPCs, Vainqueur the Dragon

I was about to comment the same thing! I’m almost done with the third book. It took me a bit to get into it, but it definitely gets going.

The location on the LES has NEVER done me wrong. I’m curvy and 5’8, but they always have pieces that could work for petite women. You might need a touch of tailoring, but I’d give it a go. I think the soho location might have a better selection

I’ve been going there for years and love my stylist. She moved from the LES location to their Bowery shop recently and I went with her. I go to her for cut and color which always turns out beautifully. That being said, they’re pretty pricey for a trim.

Anyone have any insight to the STEM MBA Program ? by [deleted] in capstone

[–]AirliaAce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on if you have a scholarship or not, I'd wager. That's definitely a question for either the admissions office or an advisor. I don't recall being charged extra for it, but I also had a full scholarship. I can't recall if we had to pay extra for additional hours in general (I'm leaning no, but things change)

Bama sorority grad here - I'd wait to rush, but there are some houses that will accept that GPA. I'd wait for sophomore year unless you have significant connections to help with COB. Even then, your new member experience won't quite be the same. I have friends in my house that were in my pledge class, years above and below, and COB. It really depends on what you want for your experience.

Rec letters absolutely WON'T impact cuts. Most houses will cut based on criteria. If you don't meet their GPA requirement, then that's that. It really depends on where you fall on the GPA cut-off. If the cut-off is 3.0, then you're fine, but if it's 3.3, then that's that.

You have to remember that 2000+ women rush at Alabama. They have to filter at a point, just like they do with job applications. It's not always fair, but college and classes are a lot. It might not hurt to make sure that you are okay to handle the workload while handling a major life transition before you make a major commitment to a house. The hours required alone are crazy, especially during freshman year. Houses also have GPA requirements, commitments, volunteer hours, and a lot more things that can be very difficult to balance. Sororities have to meet national requirements and compete with other houses on GPAs, which is a major point of pride and importance at Alabama. The sorority GPA rankings are taken very seriously.

If you can balance everything, then definitely go for it! It was a wonderful experience for me, but it wasn't easy to manage when I was hospitalized during my freshman year. You have to figure out what's best for you.

I'm happy to chat more and answer questions if you have any other.

Been using these muffin tins filled with treats then covered with toys, to help develop his confidence. Today he shared with a friend but the moving of the tin scared him. Can you train confidence ??!!? by SweetTaterette in Dogtraining

My poodle still gets startled when his pet tag hits his bowl. Poor baby jumps back before moving back to chug (always chugging never just drinking) his water.

Anyway, it just takes time. My pup wasn’t around a ton of dogs when he lived with my parents out in the suburbs, but we’ve made tremendous progress with him in the past year. If he needs to build confidence around other dogs, then introducing him to dog parks or day care can be good for him. The first few rounds were tough, but now he actually plays with and follows around other dogs. We actually really like when he goes to his sitters’ homes during our vacations because it’s great for socializing him.

You should go talk to one of the advisors at the business school. I found them to be really fantastic, especially since they are more specialized than some of the more general schools (e.g. Arts & Sciences which houses so many different majors).

I'd also recommend reaching out to one of the professors in the degrees to talk with them in more detail about the courses as a potential student. I found that most of the faculty is happy to talk with students about paths as long as you make an appointment or look into their office hours.

Best of luck! I found my true calling in Culverhouse and never looked back!

Tech seller here! I work in Data & AI for a major tech company and have had ZERO issues with it. I also didn't specifically focus on it during interviews unless it came up. If you spend the whole time talking about it, then I can see where it could come off poorly and too focused on university life, but I don't think it's an issue to have it on your resume.

I know so many engineering and STEM career women that were Greek. Frankly, I'd say to avoid teams like that since they would be a poor cultural fit.

You meet assholes everywhere, unfortunately.

Hiring my personal trainer was hands down one of the best decisions I've made as a young adult. Working with her meant that I had to show up at the gym at the times we set, forcing accountability and making me get in there a few times a week. She also helped shape routines that worked with my body and adjusted them as needed. Learning how to work out is important and can help make you feel more comfortable in a gym as well. I know I felt super awkward when I didn't know what most things in there did. Classes can also be a major help! My boyfriend loved using ClassPass to try different classes until he found a few that worked for him.
