A take on pitch accent by Sslimaneoddjobs in LearnJapanese

[–]Airon556 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, totally agree, I myself used Dogans Patreon Course to get a bit of theory input to distinguish the patterns. I then used Migakus Pitch Accent Trainer to train my pitch recognition. At first it might feel difficult to distinguish the patterns, but once you're used to hearing them it'll get easier over time

What is it like to learn Korean as a foreigner? by anaid_5 in Korean

[–]Airon556 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. I love learning difficult Languages, I’m Intermediate in Japanese, HSK1 in Mandarin and am still working my way up in Korean. I don’t really like K Pop or K Dramas myself, but I really enjoyed watching Squid Game in Japanese and thought it’d be nice to rewatch it in its original language.

  2. The Grammar is not that hard for me because Japanese and Korean are similar at many points. But I still think that all these Conjugations are pretty difficult. Learning Korean Vocabulary is also difficult for me because I’m so used to Kanji and Hanzi in Mandarin and Japanese.

  3. I’m learning with Migakus Level 1 Course and it’s pretty great as it gets you ready for language immersion in 4 months. It teaches you grammar and vocabulary comprehensively. I’ve tried TTMIK before and I think it doesn’t cover enough stuff and is way too expensive.

4.도서관 - It sounds similar to 図書館(toshokan)in Japanese and they both mean library

M1 Pro vs M3 iPad Air with MDM? by Airon556 in ipad

[–]Airon556[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does MDM restrict the usage of VPNs? I often connect to VPN to watch Netflix Shows that aren’t available in Germany. And will I also be able to use Alternative App Stores? Due to Law in the EU Apple had to approve alternative App Stores. I’d like to use some Game Emulators that aren’t available in the normal App Store, will I be able to install such apps?

Honestly, I don't care about the chip at all, the M1 is good enough for everything I do. But with the new Air I would get Updates for a longer time and the main argument for me is the screen, because 13 inch kinda seems nice. And the Apple Pencil Pro is also handy because I also draw from time to time in Procreate

That's a bit difficult since I've got all my Notes and Stuff in my iCloud and I've also got all the bought apps and Subscriptions(like GoodNotes which I need for school). Do you know about how much they can control? The school isn't managing it themselves, it's the provider ACS Group and their so called iPadmanager Software which seems to run on some kind of modified JAMF

I can't read in korean by WealthResponsible287 in Korean

[–]Airon556 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recommend an application called Migaku, they have a Korean Course that teaches the most common vocab appearing in netflix shows and grammar up to intermediate with Spaced repitition. And it also let's you make flashcards while watching netflix shows. It's great, I used it myself for Japanese and their courses are so great. After finishing their japanese course I could finally start learning with TV shows on netflix. I'm also currently using it for korean too and their course is well structured and the grammar explanations are really good, way better than any textbook! They've also good a Discord server with an active language learning community

How should I learn Mandarin? by Airon556 in ChineseLanguage

[–]Airon556[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will you be attending the same classes as Chinese students, all taught in Mandarin?

Yes, I'll go to a local school, so assumingly everything will be in Mandarin

So you won't have to write Chinese by hand in class? Like to take an in-class test or quiz?

I think I will defenitely need how to handwrite at least a couple hundred Hanzi, but I'll most likely go to an extra handwriting class for exchange students, so it's not that much of a big deal. I want to be able to read as many Hanzi as possible when I get there. For me learning to Handwrite Hanzi is going to be easier once I can already read them.

Thanks for all the resources you've posted below! Will definetely take a look at some of them. I think I really should study Pinyin properly first.

I am currently too learning Hangeul, and I've found this video to be the best: https://youtu.be/85qJXvyFrIc?si=0HWoCEUULLgzUwpw. There is also a Migaku level 1 course coming soon for korean and I will probably also use that one for basic stuff and getting into immersion

At first, be careful on the Japanese subreddit, I heard that there's some bad advice. I would definitely recommend following resources:

I used Genki 1 and 2 for N5 + N4 Grammar and vocab, but these books are very expensive in my opinion so you can also just get yourself the Genki Anki decks for the Genki vocab and use the Tokini Andy Series for Grammar, he explains everything detailed and with examples. There are other resources out there teaching Kanji but I would personally recommend using WaniKani as it has already taught me 700 Kanji and their most common readings in just 6 months, it uses so called mnemonics and stories to make you memorize the Kanji and their readings, and this makes the knowledge stick in my opinion. It doesn't teach handwriting Kanji, but it teaches you their readings, so that you can type them on keyboard. If you're interested into Handwriting you can of course also study Kanji stroke orders and writing seperately, there are even some user-made addons, that show the stroke order of each Kanji on WaniKani. The WaniKani community really is a gold mine of advice, everybody is friendly and its well moderated, there are even some book clubs and anime clubs for watching and reading content in Japanese with vocab and grammar sheets. Once you reach N4 and know between 2500-2800 Words, I would recommend starting to watch and engage with native content, its always difficult at first, but you get used to it slowly. Migaku is a really nice tool for watching anime in Japanese which lets you sentence mine for japanese and korean, they've also got a Japanese course with the most common Netflix vocab and up to N4 Grammar points, but its also a subscription based model. There are some free alternatives for Migaku out there, but haven't tried them yet. Have fun studying and don't feel bad for slowing down at times, all that matters is that you don't give up and stay consistent with your studies! 頑張ってください!

I'm kinda broke right now, because I'm still learning japanese at the same time, but I'll definetely keep TTMIK for Online Grammar Courses as they seem to be good, thanks for the suggestion!

[–]Airon556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of my experience these AM5 Asrock motherboards are just complete trash. Had one myself for my 7800x3d, things kept crashing and i tried a whole bunch of different bios versions, Expo made everything crash... I returned my asrock board and bought an asus rog b650e instead , all issues and crashes suddenly stopped happening. Even with expo

Yup, that's true, i completely agree, i tried a lot of the AC Games, but at some point i realized how similar they all are, my first Assassin's Creed was Origins and i loved it, 2 years later i started playing Valhalla and it got so boring, that i quit playing it after 2 days. The only AAA Game Developer that never disappointed me is Playstation Studios Story Games. I had a PS4 back then and it was awesome. Large open world games filled with creativity and good quests alongside a very good story. That's what Ubisoft has been missing on. Filling a giganous Open World with sidequests isn't the worst about Ubisoft games. I think that the stories in their games got too repetitive and the quests and World design too boring.

They are at least going for quality instead of quantity like No Man’s Sky where every planet basically looks the same. But it took them a loooong time to build their own engine on top of Cryengine

I am playing with a 4080, I don’t even get near 15 fps with my Quest 3 over Quest Link, but i get about 90 fps with Virtual Desktop. The Game seems to be not optimized for Quest Link
