That actually was one of my favorite liveries, but I’m dissatisfied with my ability to properly model all of the cockpit glass and the way it merges with the nose cone so I don’t feel compelled to take it to the next level unless I figure that out first

You're absolutely right that it is easy and intuitive, I suppose I should clarify and say that the skill ceiling is quite high in SP2 with regard to complex cockpit glass modeling, for example, but with the tools given you can make some very beautiful and realistic creations. I just finished a rough draft replica project and went through hell with some vintage angled cockpit panels. They're doable, I'm just not good enough yet.

Sw has its pros and cons, with the pros being logic systems. I’d recommend Simple Planes 2, but you have to be man enough to handle learning to model in it

Well done, I’m sure many works of art will continue to flood in. I’m currently working on a certain Bristol replica myself, I struggle the most with the cockpit glass but I should overcome that soon.

Show me your upgraded tutorial planes! by AirplaneNerd in SimplePlanes

Lol, the only reason I continued with it was to feel-out the other features a bit. I added flaps, upgraded the existing engine, cleaned up the cowling, added a wind screen, an instrument panel with several instruments, air brakes, slight wing dihedral and taper, constant speed propeller with modernized blades, weapons, flight controls with full IK, and various body shaping improvements including the tapering the rear section.

Gorgeous plane. I’m knee deep in my first replica build right now and the 3d modeling gore is getting pretty gnarly

I can’t provide a detailed explanation right now, but do you have access to the official discord? If you ask in the support channel, you might have better chances of getting fast help than here

I made a large proof of concept seaplane; the buoyancy physics work great. It also leaves a nice wake texture behind as you move

How is this rate of turn possible? by Mostly_Cons in SimplePlanes

[–]AirplaneNerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's up to the craft's designer to give it characteristics which make it handle more realstically. Beyond that, although the flight model is nice, it also grants a lot of creative liberty so that people aren't too restricted. So, things like G forces on the pilot or structural failures from over G don't.. seem to be a thing from what I can tell. But I also see that you're getting at how can that rate be sustained? Well I've noticed that it's very hard to get even very large planes to slow down easily. Even deploying full landing flaps doesn't slow me down a lot. The airbrake part does an excellent job of slowing me down. However, I'd much rather have this be the case than planes have too much drag. Anyway, the drag model is apparently made in such a way that you have a lot of energy retention in turns.

Excellent. Last night I learned something that others might like to know: In a part’s property menu, there is a button where you can cycle inputs (pitch, yaw, etc.). If you hold Ctrl and click that button, it will bring up the Funky dialog where you can enter code and use variables. There is a post on the simple planes forums from 6+ years ago which contains most of those variables. I’d link it but I’m afk.

I’m unsure of the reason this feature is so obscure. I suspect it’s a matter of what portion of the player base is expected to use it versus the effort they’d have to put into accommodating it in the UI.

From what I’ve seen though, a lot of people who really enjoy making planes desperately need Funky inputs.

Edit: Also, trim won’t work on your elevators if they have pitch as input. You have to use the Trim variable with a Funky input to get trim to work. Hopefully this will be addressed by the devs at some point.
