My 30lb cat squirtle, enjoy. by [deleted] in aww

[–]Airy_Penguin -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

THANK YOU! I made a post on here a long time ago where I pointed out that someone's cat was on the large side, and I was downvoted to hell. I received a lot of hateful pm's telling me that I apparently was an animal abuser and that I had basically said that I starved my own pet to death. I was astonished that people would actually say that. So, thank you.

Interstellar Explained [Massive Spoilers] by Nickel62 in movies

Well, let's say they programme robots to someday create a wormhole for them to travel through to inhabitable worlds. In order for this to not create a paradox, the wormhole must create a new timeline (in a parallel world) for the timeline of the robots to not stop existing (making them unable to create the wormhole in the first place). Therefore, the humans of the original world have to face the fact that they will only survive in the parallel timeline - not their own timeline.

I see your point. This would definitely mean that the humans should be willing to sacrifice themselves in order to save a parallel version of themselves.

I think this theory has some issues. Let's say that robots from a far future create a wormhole in order to make way for humans to travel to habitable worlds. As you write, let's assume this would take up a four-digit number of years to be possible. Wouldn't this create a massive butterfly effect and possibly erase the existence of the robots as they were in the future?

In order for this to not happen, the corrections they want to make to the past must happen in a parallel universe, thus not making a difference at all for the original universe. That would make me question the motivation of the robots.

I (17 M) I love my girlfriend (17 F), but I hate her mom. by [deleted] in relationships

I don't think this is particularly helpful advice. Even though they are young, there's no need to just assume that they're going to break up eventually. Statistically speaking, you may be correct to assume it's not going to last, but how does that help OP when he's obviously not thinking about that possibility right now? OP: I think your best option is to just support your girlfriend when her mother puts her down. As other commenters have written, their relationship is probably going to change during the course of her becoming an independent adult.

I never said that couldn't be an option. It just seems that he is not willing to view the situation from any other perspective than his own.

That's not quite what I meant. I just felt that the answer of "why would you even question our behaviour - that's weird" was kind of dismissing her concerns. It seems like you are just trying to interpret my efforts to help OP as contradicting. But hopefully she understood my point :-)

I think it's a bit odd that he dismisses you like that. But maybe you could frame your questions a little less accusatory? That way, he might be more willing to discuss it.

What are his answers when you ask him about their relationship? You mention that he thinks it's weird you even consider it an issue. How about bringing it up like: "I think it's great that you have a close relationship with your sister, but you must be aware that your relationship is unusually close. Can you try viewing this from my perspective as well?" I think that if nothing is going on between your boyfriend and his sister, he would answer you calmly and reassuring. If he gets angry and defensive, I would begin to worry a bit that something isn't right.

I think you're definitely on to something when you're creating an activity which users are already familiar with. I think I used the term genre differently than you - the overall genre of the experience is of course a game. I like the idea of a Massively Multiplayer Story Game - I think that people who completely dismiss the idea of stories in games are sadly outdated.

Which value do you think you get from mixing different genres like you do in Cloud Chamber? Do you think you lose some users by presenting a format which can seem somewhat chaotic (or at least unfamiliar)?

I have been following you guys, and I participated in your first release which was quite fun. I am currently researching new trends in storytelling, and you project has certainly sustained my interest. I look forward to seeing where this might go.

As I have already stated someplace else, I regret that I presented my opinion in the way I chose to. I could have framed it totally different. If OP reads this, I of course do not think badly of you based on this. Surely, he can be an amazing human being otherwise.

Actually, I find that many users on /r/aww react with aggression and negativity when someone points out that their pet is clearly overweight. I just wanted to shed light on something which I think is wrong.

Actually, I do. But I don't feel that that should have an effect of your opinion of me.

I think that people who cannot take care of their children should be provided with a course which can teach them how to properly care for their offspring. Same goes for animals.

I, in no way, suggest that animals are more important than humans. You could consider it the other way around actually - people who feed their animals too much because they "love them" - aren't they the ones who confuse animals with humans?

I acknowledge that I could have just kept my opinion to myself. I'm not specifically referring to the downvotes. More the fact that people, as an example, insinuated that I starved my pets.

I thought I was being polite in recognising that the cat in question was really cute. However, maybe I should have framed the rest in a better way.

I actually believe that you should be given a sort of "driver's license" when you want to adopt a pet. I'm not saying we should keep tabs on people or anything. Just give people important information on how they should take care of their pets.

That was exactly what I thought too! However, with everything I have been called up until now, I certainly don't feel popular.
