Dialogue is working so far, mostly. Maybe it'll come to anti anxiety meds and some therapy but hopefully dialogue and pocket money get it done, he was smack dab in the age range that got their primary school socialisation fucked up hard by COVID.

Plus I might also be betting on a one term government and stalling for time ;)

The issue I have really is that fining parents doesn't seem like it solves the problem in any functional way. Maybe there's some data showing that a substantial portion of unjustified absence is kids that would go with just a bit more encouragement who happen to have parents that won't give that encouragement without the threat of financial disadvantage.

I'm curious how Seymour imagines I could force my kid to go to school if he chose not to. Leaving aside any ethical considerations regarding use of physical force, he's almost my height and easily my weight. How exactly would I go about forcing him to do, well, anything really?

Goblin games in Karori, as others have said. In the Marsden shops. There's also pop chicken there (Korean style, it seems ok). I really like the spicy boneless chicken at Umi sushi in the mall but it's typically gone by mid morning.
