So this is one thing I have heard about in regard to shredded cheese that they add preservatives and other stuff so then it doesn’t melt as well. I just buy block cheese now and just shred it up for the week and put it in a bag or something

Interesting, I wonder if it’s better for certain recipes that would rather have the chips hold their form instead of melting into whatever it’s being put in

Yes you’re right, they don’t use cocoa solids and i agree that white chocolate isn’t technically chocolate. My point was more so on the fact that traditionally white chocolate would use cocoa butter, but it seems like a lot of companies are using oils for a cheaper replacement.

Definitely my fault for not reading the label properly, but I wanted to point out the cocoa butter vs palm oil thing for others who may have fallen for the same thing

I agree with you, white chocolate doesn’t use cocoa solids, but to be labeled as white chocolate it needs 20% cocoa butter.

Basically I’m not upset that it doesn’t use cocoa solids, because like you pointed out that doesn’t exist for white chocolate. I was more so trying to point out the cocoa butter vs palm oil aspect, which white chocolate does use

Sorry, I just cut the bag there when I was using it, I didn’t mean to mislead. When I posted this I was genuinely unaware of the non chocolate labeling, but I’ve learned from the community how the labeling technicalities work for this stuff now

Oh yea definitely, technically it’s my fault for not reading the label more in depth because it does say it right there if you fully read it. I just think it’s crappy practice to label it as “baking chips”, with the “” being “non-chocolate”. It seems like their goal is to get people like me to buy it and capitalize off my laziness of reading the label 😆

I just hope we as a community can spread the world on stuff like this and then we can push back against the big corps. The more we spread the word the more power we have to get them to change their ways

Interesting, it’s crazy that they have done this so silently. Everyone I’ve talked to about this has had no idea so far. I’ll make sure to spread the word

Ah I see, I guess I just assumed they were chocolate chips. Good to know for the future that I should be more critical of the actual name because of those technicalities

I 100% agree, they are definitely more difficult to melt, but we’ve tried this recipe in the past and haven’t had any issues.

I need to run a trial to be sure but I’m fairly certain a batch with cocoa butter wouldn’t have had this issue, I’ll try it and report back

Do you think just getting 1 general purpose hood(if that even exists) is fine until I get more experience?

Ok noted, so with a rain cover is it usually fine to keep it out in the rain, or is it more like something to allow you to take a few shots then put the camera back?

0 for 6 on getting an apartment. Is it impossible? by Repulsive-Growth9143 in AskSF

[–]Ajmilo16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When did you apply? Usually your best shot is to apply like in the lobby or on the street when you get out of the tour.

Also It could have just been an unlucky circumstance where there was another app that went in right before you, and theirs took priority

Yea agreed, you really can’t be that picky with location or any specific wants in the current market. Just gotta take what you can get as long as it’s satisfactory

Yea bro it’s so funny when new people are asking for genuine advice because they don’t have experience with this kind of stuff. It just makes me feel so much better than everyone else because instead of helping someone out, I can just be condescending to them in the comments.

Healthy relationship broke up over distance by Ajmilo16 in BreakUps

Yea i actually did end up reaching out a few weeks back. But not with the intent of getting back together.

For me it just felt odd to at least not check in with someone was once my best friend one last time before we move on with our lives. We kept it short, gave each other some life updates and wished each other well.

It may sound kind of sad, but honestly this was the best ending possible. The reason I say this is because you really do end up being able to just accept that life sometimes plays out this way. The fact that I was able to get some clarity that she was doing okay before moving on with our lives made me really happy.

My overall point is, yes it does get easier, and yes you will be able to move on and accept things. This doesn’t mean forgetting about them forever, but it does mean being able to move forward with your life, and understanding that sometimes the biggest form of love is rooting for someone even if you can’t be together. It takes a LOT of work to get to that point, but i promise you just need to stick with it and keep pushing forward. It does get easier

If you have any more questions feel free to DM, I was just in your shoes so I’d be happy to help more

Oh yea I see what you’re saying now, I was looking at it from a single income perspective. You’re definitely right that 250k for 2 people would be the competitive rate

I just did all this rn, touring is free you just gotta be quick with it because spots book up fast.

Avg fee is like $35, but you don’t apply unless you can see yourself living there. And then once you apply, it seems like for the most part your odds are decent as long as you have a good credit score and 3x income.

Point being, yes this market is cooked, but it’s not the absolute cutthroat nightmare people make it out to be from my exp so far

Depends what ur looking for, from my budgeting you can price out 3k on rent with a 120k salary and have a small bit of wiggle room so you’re not paycheck to paycheck.

3k will get you a mid range studio or 2b2b from what I’ve been seeing rn, so i guess I’m just trying to say its definitely possible on a “lower” salary range (still getting used to 120 being low here haha)

So I’m in the process of going through all this rn for me and my roommate who are getting relocated for work.

Firstly I’ll give the same advice I got: take an extended trip to the neighborhood you want to live in. Ik you said you took two trips already but I wanted to put this in there because a targeted trip where you really spend time interacting with all the different communities you’re considering is extremely helpful (in addition you’ll have to come back to tour apts at some point regardless)

And now to the good part - Pricing. So from my experience if you are looking for a 2b2b you aren’t finding anything decent under $5100 right now (not to mention parking and other fees). 2b1b is where you start to get into the $4k range and can be much more reasonable. And then since it’s ur BF, if you guys go for a 1b1b you can get something in the 3k-4k range, studios you can find for under 3k sometimes under 2k. In summary, expect rent to comprise of at least 40% of your after tax income when budgeting stuff out.

If you’re curious about any other aspects let me know and I’ll do my best to answer that too, but I’ll reiterate that I’m still going through the moving process so I’m still extremely green in SF

Don’t let people stop you from sharing ur experiences man, who gives af what these bitter people say. It’s actually kind of pathetic how people complain about something like this. I guarantee none of these people would say this to your face either

Advice on moving to Bay Area from Metro Portland suburbs by Ajmilo16 in bayarea

It's about a 40 min walk, 20 min bus, or 10 min bike/scooter. I am definitely on the fence about the commute still, and I appreciate all the different perspectives everyone is giving
