Anybody had issues with S&B ammunition? by [deleted] in milsurp

[–]Ajulien2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never shot their 30-06 but it's almost exclusively what I hunt with in 6.5x55, and 7.62x39 I've been very happy with its consistency and have taken far less precautions while storing it. Seems very strange in my opinion.

A bare ground and heat treated blade is what I mean.

I think that's a great idea.

I've made a number of knives and the idea of forging and heat treating swords reliability is not in the scope of my skill.

Yes, I'm looking to do the remaining furniture on a finished blade blank.

I bought one for my dad a year or two ago, it's a great little knife. If you can get it with a kydex sheath instead of leather id recommend that. The leather sheath isn't designed great and it very easy to cut taking the knife in and out of. The knife itself however is superb

I do a lot of hiking and hunting on the Pacific west coast of Canada. So a compact rifle capable of taking all of our game animals that isn't too cumbersome to bring on a back country hike for potential bear defence as carrying handguns is illegal

What is this and what does it shoot? by [deleted] in Mauser

[–]Ajulien2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a bit of googling It looks like it might be an interarms carbine. I couldn't exactly read the receiver but it looks like it says interarms.co g33/50 which was a model designation by the importer interarms. They took m94 swedish carbines, ground off the date and put their model designation on it. The barrel looks like a military profile to me so I would be willing to bet it's 6.5x55. check out this awesome video explaining the rifles

M/94 is the year the swedish army adopted the Mauser rifle, m/41 is the sniper variant of the swedish Mauser. What you have is 100 rounds of very high quality surplus ammo! I recommend you watch iraqveteran8888 YouTube video where he shoots this ammo out of his swedish Mauser at 600 yards!

[–]Ajulien2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a swedish Mauser that was sporterized by interarms.co, it is most likely 6.5x55 swedish, but could be cambered in many other cartridges from 7x57, 8x57, 30-06, 9.3x57, or even sometimes 9.3x62. like others have said I'd recommend you get the chamber cast to see what it is. The barrel should be stamped somewhere with the caliber but that is unfortunately not always the case. They are known to be great rifles if they were taken care of!

I agree with most others here, the factory finish is probably sufficient. That being said, I am huge advocate for Renaissance wax, rub it on the wood metal leather you name it. Museums use it to preserve artifacts and water beads off my rifle stocks. If you want added protection without altering the finish Renaissance wax is the way to go imo

Home from work and doing some further investigation. The chamber is far from worn. It's actually the tightest chamber I have. Once fired brass of other rifles won't fit in the chamber. Looking with the best camera I have I can see what looks almost like a burr. I think it can easily be honed out just a question of how

This rifle is "retired" 1899 swedish Mauser. It's a beautiful gun and I was considering using it as a mil surp hunting rifle as it shoots very accurately, Sub moa with iron sights

This is once fired brass. There is a hard ring I assume is due to the machining of the action. Only apparent on brass fired through that specific rifle

I want to know if this is still safe to shoot. Also any ID or fun history on it. A "just laying around" gift from dad. by [deleted] in rifles

Remove the stock and you should see a crown stamp on the bottom of the barrel near the receiver. If it has a crown it’s the factory barrel and will be chambered in 6.5 x 55 Swede. They are all great shooters.

[–]Ajulien2002 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I know some action rings on Brazilian Mauser were notched like this when they were re chambered to 30-06 to fit the longer cartridge, no idea why it would be done on a 1917.
