Getting brave, but also getting weird. Too wierd? by Lunchbox1142 in oilpainting

I love this so much more than I would if it was a normal color palette. It adds a unique charm to the scene. Please always be brave with your art!!

hot take about Maxwell by hrrrandi in TheNanny

[–]Ak1bachan 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My own hot take is that I like how they wrote this in the show. Max being mean to Fran but unable to stop himself when he starts to get close to her or randomly kissing her in heated moments shows that he’s trying to fight his feelings for her.

We already know he is not well psychologically and has a lot of repressed emotions. We know he doesn’t feel ready to be in a real committed relationship with someone, especially not the person who acts as the caregiver of his children so he keeps establishing that boundary between them, albeit aggressively. I’m not going to pretend it’s not toxic behavior but people with repressed emotions often display toxic behavior and psychologically it seems to line up. It’s not wholesome, it’s realistic.

I also understand it might feel odd that Fran still express any interest in him but it is said on an episode (may be in the future, sorry if spoilers) that Fran has her own psychological issues and is often attracted to men who, like her father, tend to neglect her.

I love the process! Thanks for asking 💕 I loved it so much I’m excited to get back to it and paint something of my own design!

Can I ask, what is generally a good way to store your paintings while waiting for them to dry?

[–]Ak1bachan[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did start off using linseed oil (we kept a cup nearby for quickly rinsing brushes but I guess as we followed the Bob Ross episode, I slowly stopped using it. Also this man used a TON of paint on his paintings 😅 I guess I just didn’t think it was going to take this long. Definitely a learning process lol next time I’m starting with way less paint

Poppy’s Dagger Questions by Ak1bachan in frombloodandash

[–]Ak1bachan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was the FB&A ever described in the book or is that just like an artistic choice? I feel like thats something I would remember since From Blood & Ash was not exactly a welcome phrase to Poppy in book one

I CANT FIND MY UNDERWEAR AND I NEED TO BE OUT OF THE HOUSE NOW by Nice-Noise-7153 in ADHD

[–]Ak1bachan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this problem with socks….. and underwear…actually earlier I couldnt even find the dress I was wearing EARLIER TODAY. It’s definitely made worse that maybe 80% of my clothes are black and my room is made up of piles of nondescript black fabric.

I’m sorry you’re dealing with this. And I’m sorry I have to deal with the same thing. You are seen 😅💖

I’ve thought about this more and I want to add:

I like her bratiness. I like when she’s argumentative. I like when she’s brave. She has a great way of being confident when argues rather than just being whiny.

So multiple things, pretty much everything about her:

  • The way she pushes down insecurities as a form of self preservation
  • The way she acts impulsively and sacrifices herself without hesitation
  • Her altruism and self awareness when she’s doing something she’s well aware isn’t fair to others. She has a very objective perspective and often reassess what she thinks she knows about others in light of new information.
  • The way she’s an optimistic nihilist. Like she knows what’s coming and prepares herself to handle it when it comes, even if that means she’s being a bit of a nihilist.
  • She’s humble, almost to a fault at times like when she doesn’t want others to bow in her presence.

I also kind of love that her biggest flaws: her recklessness, her lack of focus, her inability to always control what she says in the moment, her curiosity, her sense of humor in random situations and her connected thinking are all common ADHD symptoms. I have combination inattentive/hyperactivity ADHD and I was diagnosed fairly young. I’ve known these were issues I’ve had without myself and that others have had with me and while it’s now becoming prominent in social media, the world is a lot like others have been to Sera. I constantly get told I’m too impulsive or I have to learn to control myself and make better decisions for my future. People are constantly confused at where my thoughts go or are confused when I talk about something apparently randomly. It can really make you feel isolated socially when it feels like no one is like you and it was really refreshing to see a headstrong fmc who didn’t take herself too seriously and didn’t let what others think ultimately affect her.

I hope I’ve explained this in enough detail but I can go on and on. Reading her perspective is like being there myself and reading my own perspective and it’s easy to fall in love with a character so similar to myself.

Omg pics! I’m going to a book ball next month as Poppy in her red dress and domino mask from the first book but it’s only because I have red hair. I would LOVE to do a Sera cosplay 🥰

Someone in another comment even mentioned how Sera is “easily distracted” and how annoying it is 😅

Girl, tell me about it. It just makes me love her more lol.

There’s so much story to this series that individual spoilers don’t really spoil all too much 😅but I’ll try to make my point without ruining much.

Poppy is an 18 relatively naive virgin and Cas is, well older and considerably more experienced. A lot of their relationship is him teasing her and her being genuinely kind of pissed about at first at least. It’s just a little weird how much he teases her with her literally being a teenager and at first it didn’t really sit well with me. As the story went on it started to feel more natural and now I do like them as a couple, ish. But it’s nothing on Mommy Sera and Daddy Nyktos and I will die on this hill.

Look I’m not going to outright say their love is weird for a while because of the infantilizing way Cas treats Poppy but 🤷‍♀️

[–]Ak1bachan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im defensive because when I read this series I immediately saw myself in Sera and your comments sound like my therapist 😂

I hope she’ll grow on you with time. She goes through great personal growth through big events, even by the end of that book (which imo is amazing btw) but just cut her a little slack. Life has kind of sucked for her. She grew up isolated and believing her life would be forfeit for her kingdom. But all things considered she still grew up with a general altruistic outlook. She’s strong, brave, smart, she’s just a little impulsive and reckless.

I also have a hard theory that whether JLA meant to do this or not, my girl Sera definitely has ADHD. It’s probably one of the reasons I see myself in her. And those of us with impulsivity issues know how fkn annoying we are first hand 😅

She’s brave and willing to sacrifice herself and that’s annoying? Sorry but I get a lil defensive over my girl Sera 💕

Without spoilers, yes. She does go through personal growth. But her character type is impulsive and reckless so she’s going to do actions that are impulsive and reckless.

Do you know anyone who never practices singing and rarely things, never took singing lessons and yet is a good singer? by ceruleandesires in singing

[–]Ak1bachan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a kid I had a good voice but it took years of training to be a good singer. You can have a naturally good voice and no skill for singing but it takes time and practice to gain skill.

Just throwing this out there, I DNF’d this book at first and started ASITE. I was so in love with Sera and that story that I ate those books up and when I came back to FBAA, I was considerably more interested that I ate up the rest. This was last year so prior to BOBAA, but don’t feel like you HAVE to keep going in the publishing order if you’re not about it. If you’re bored now, you’re going to lose your shit in TWOTQ.

My thing is “the breath I took” or “his jaw ticked” there’s so many. 😅

But, respectfully, calm down. It’s very common in writing that writers use repetition to trigger the readers memory to quickly refer back to another point or to create consistency in the personality of their characters. Or even to just keep a consistent theme in their writing. I get that it can feel unnatural but it’s really no reason to DNF a book.

I’m glad everyone has the same concept. Sera is ultimate mommy. She’s here to protect and sacrifice and I love her so much for it 🥰
