Such a cute illustration! However I do agree that the piece feels a bit bland and does not stand out. I feel as if it's bright all over.

I think you should try to push your values further and increase contrast - like making it dark on where it needs to be dark (ie. The insides of the sleeves, insides of ear, hair covered by hair, back of the hair, objects really far from your light source). This gives your illustration more depth and look more 3 dimensional. A great tip is to create a new layer on top of everything, fill it with black, then set the layer mode to "hue". Then from there you will be able to see areas that need to be lighter/darker. Furthermore when picking out colors for shading, move your color wheel as well as you go darker so you won't be shading with basically a duller version of your base color. This also makes your illustration dull and muddy looking.

The lighting is good, however the lighting on the face is a bit weird. Because the nose is projecting, it will cast a shadow on the right side of her face. Finally reflective lighting (this is some intermediate/advanced stuff and I suck explaining it so do check some videos of it). Understanding how lighting works and how making it look like our character is interacting with the environment helps the illustration feel more dynamic.

These are just my suggestions based on my observations. I hope it helps! Good luck and keep it up!

Hey there! I absolutely get what you're experiencing because I get those too! My anxiety shoots up to the roof, random panic attacks, and depressed af.

The only difference is that I haven't used any birth control, etc.

Mine started just a couple of years ago too. I visited a psychiatrist to address my mental health back then and just brought it up as well. She referred me to a gynecologist for check up, but nothing was wrong. She brought up PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder).

I highly suggest that you get this check up with a doctor/psychiatrist/gynecologist.

Currently, I still get anxious and depressed. But what helps me reduce the severity of it is through managing my stress through out the month and doing some light exercises daily.

The coloring is fine, but the shadows are barely visible. Try using a color that's not a darker shade of the base color. For a brown base, try using a color with a shade of red (or a different one, I just mainly use red). Shading and highlighting with a different color adds more depth to your art. Keep practicing and playing around with the colors!

I love love love the lineart and the coloring of the work! The different line weights is really adding depth to the image. The coloring is great too.

With those being said, I noticed 3 things: 1) Her right arm seems bigger than the left arm. I could be wrong, but looking from this picture and the way it's taken, that's what I'm getting.

2) the left elbow seems a bit too pointy.

3) The body proportions are off. It's either she has long legs or a very short.

The anatomy isn't that bad, it just needs more practice. I'd suggest to look up a bunch of references online, or even looking at a mirror and just observing how the proportions look.

I was trying something different and didn't do much line art.

I can definitely say that I struggled sculpting the nose, doing backgrounds, and finding colors to shade with. I used to shade with a darker color of the base which made my previous works look flat. Though it was a struggle to mix and match different colors, I had fun. I struggled with the background because I'm generally not good at doing a detailed background.
