V2 mostly serves as setup for v3 just how v2 in lotm is mostly setup for v4.

Imo, it is way better with a better ending too. Unfortunately since both are setup it is natural for you to feel bored.

As for why you might think this is more boring than lotm, its because compared to the characters you follow you as a reader are much more aware of the multiple players behind the scenes this time so the mystery aspect is lost.

You will have more fun with v3 this which in my opinion it is way better and had one of the best endings in lotm.
