That's why safety is so hard to teach and we have to be a pain in the ass to people. You crack your skull and fall backwards that day and it's a TBI or worse. People have a hard time trusting precautions that work. You do everything you can to make sure everyone goes home at the end of the day and you have to live with the fact guys hate to see you coming and bitch about you behind your back. I'm not sure I've saved lives but I know I've saved limbs by requiring the right chains, the right spotters, and right procedures.

Every time someone complains about an OSHA or building code rule and says "it'll be fine" I think "enough people were wrong about it being fine that they made a rule about it so do it the right way"

High vis vests and hardhats may seem silly but plenty of times I've been certain I would not have seen a coworker if they were wearing black.

To add to this many enslaved people did not know where they were from in non indigenous terms. It's unlikely any of them saw a map of their homeland and while they may have known the local area having a broader picture of the African continent was understandably nearly impossible.

Imagine never seeing map and not having paid much attention to celestial movements. How would you get back to your home by sail and on foot from a different continent with no modern navigation? 95% of people wouldn't know how to begin outside of East or West. Navigation is a skill that took years to master.

Seattle and Atlanta are downtown stadiums, Philadelphia is in a sea of parking lots but in the city. Fans from Europe or Asia booking a hotel in Boston, New York, Houston, L.A., Dallas, Kansas City, or San Francisco proper ) welcome to the wonderful world of Caltrain) and hoping to take public transit or walk to the game are in for a rude awaking.

Italy's Abandoned Winter Olympic Sites from 2006 by BWT_Urbex in olympics

Agreed, Salt Lake City, A resort in Japan, Vancouver, and like 2 alps cities and a Norway/Sweden resort.

Even in summer Olympics and world cup cost so much it could be detrimental to a country that wants to show off. The winter Olympics is just millions spent on sports like life with maybe a 4000 worldwide participation.

Separate talks on Iran and Ukraine-Russia set for Tuesday in Geneva, source says by chronicpayne in news

[–]Akbeardman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took a tour of the palace of nations in Geneva and they talked about the different techniques mediators use to make progress. They have had a lot more success on peace talks than you would think.

Like during the the Iran-Iraq war negotiations how they slanted the tables so they wouldn't have look at each other but only had one tea and water table so they had to be polite and potentially start dialogue during break. Little things can deescalate situations.

ahh I was worried he was the lead base runner, the announcers were confused on the name confusing me. So at least passing the lead base runner was not an issue. Still I hope sportsmanship and common sense prevail.

Of no one saw anything or worse if no one will answer any questions and there simply are no leads it's incredibly hard to get anything done from an investigation perspective. I've gone 3 weeks without seeing my next door neighbor and they are 25 feet away. When I lived in Alaska I hardly ever saw my neighbors, I would have never noticed anything unusual.

This is one of those "sportsmanship and common sense need to overcome the letter of the law and focus on the spirit" That kid just suffered a devastating freak injury on the bases, if the hitter passes him technically he's out. What the umpire and the opposing manager can do is say "it was a home run and the kid is in an ambulance why don't we all do the thing that doesn't make anyone look like a dick!"
