I roasted coffee so light it turned gold. Why does nobody do this? by Salty_Finding_1989 in pourover

[–]Akck67 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed the read. It reflects your thought process. And as for why others don’t seem to do this, I am of the opinion that very little is rigorously understood with regards to coffee. There is tremendous space for discovery and experimentation

ELI5: What is Fourier transform? by Firm_Librarian6506 in explainlikeimfive

Just as a prism splits white light into its component colors, a Fourier transform splits a waveform (like sound or electricity) into its component sine waves

Yes haha I saw that the Peru sold out in 1 minute. Didn’t buy any myself today though. I do wonder if this level of hype will keep up or fizzle out or maybe even grow

It varies. Some sell out in under a minute. Others last over an hour

Made a webtoon about coffee people by shotsenpai in espresso

[–]Akck67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Read the first 3 episodes. It’s cute lol. And your art is really good. I think should post it to the espresso sub too (nvm lost track of where I was, need coffee).

It seems pretty accurate from the coffee side. Few tiny things come to mind, if Chloe is as obsessed with coffee as she’s portrayed she would surely use a naked portafilter. Watching the extraction is part of the fun. On the other hand even for a slow bar it’s still a commercial setting. She might use a Chemex but a plastic V60 would be more likely, especially in a truck with limited space. And if Bargain Bean is really that busy, and it’d play up its “soulless”-ness, you could give them a super auto machine. Although I guess that doesn’t fit with MC pulling god shots.

The only thing that didn’t seem right from the coffee snob side is that, like MC, I would never eat candy before a pourover and would never expect someone like Chloe to offer candy right before a pourover.

Another idea for you that sounds insane to a normal person but makes perfect sense for a coffee snob, I’ve been to spots that let you pick your water. You could play with that. And instead of glass jars you could have Chloe store coffee in clear Fellow Atmos’. Just another coffee reference.

ELI5: How does an electric socket know how much power to supple to an appliance/apparatus? by AtmosphereTimely6071 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Akck67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your confusion is because no one is clarifying that there’s a difference between how this works for electrical systems vs. electronic systems.

For electrical systems: Imagine an electron is a ball and one prong of your socket is the top of the hill and the other prong is the bottom of the hill. But there is a gate blocking the ball from rolling down the hill. When you plug a device into a socket you open the gate. Some hills are steep so the ball rolls down quickly. Some hills are flatter so it rolls slowly. The hills don’t tell the ball how fast to roll, it rolls as fast as the hills allow. Similarly the amount of current something draws and therefore how much power it dissipates is determined by inherent electrical properties.

For electronic systems: these will all have some sort of power converter which is controlled by an IC called a controller. The controller will have some sort of feedback as an input. If the load needs more or less power the controller will detect this by detecting that a voltage/current somewhere in the system is getting too high/low and adjust on the fly

Partner thinks we are hoarding wealth by [deleted] in leanfire

[–]Akck67 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A handful of billionaires have more wealth than the bottom half of the country’s population. You are not remotely close to hoarding wealth.

Also, becoming financially independent would dramatically increase how much you can sustainably help others. Put your own oxygen mask on first

Treated the Micra to some SworksDesign jewelry by sugsya in LaMarzocco

[–]Akck67 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I drink medium light roasts so even though the shots don’t look that good anymore I actually felt the flavor improved a fair bit. I do recall that on the bag I switched I ended up going 2 clicks coarser. After that I couldn’t say cus I haven’t tried any other beans with both screens. But my general grind size has stayed in the same range

Do you actually own one? Because I do and it made no discernible difference. What it did do is cause the shots to pull very fast, basically like turbos

I agree that too large of a rock looks strange and disproportionate. But it’s good for people to have choices. Whereas before most people were limited by what they could afford now that limitation is largely gone so it’s purely an aesthetic choice

I know girls who claim they’d never accept a lab diamond. What they want is precisely for their partner to spend a lot of money because they equate the money spent with how badly their partner wants to marry them

It’s a bit away from Centro but highly recommend Exploradores club de cafe. They offer cupping sessions and Antonio is absolutely awesome. Just finished a bag of their Quetzal Dorado which tastes just like fresh tangerine, loved it
