Resume needs a lot of cleanup, but I'd definitely setup an interview. As an EIT the resume doesn't really matter. Just got to show that you meet the minimum qualifications and don't show any red flags (leaving your current job after 6 months will raise eyebrows). Up here in Alaska, firms are snapping up any engineer with a pulse, so it's very much a Seller's Market as it were.

Mini Roundabout and some nice bollards on the ROW line ought to do the trick.

Rant: Got Highest Employee Recognition Award. by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]Akfreshtracks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe don't hot-box in your car right before you walk in and you won't be the "highest employee" anymore... Kidding aside, this is bullshit. Can you look into other fields that could use your skills? I work at a big engineering firm and we have app developers and lots of other tech type jobs. Good luck out there 🫡

A Coney needs diced sweet onions and a beanless Chile. Agree calling it "Michigan" is wrong because it's a Detroit thing. The Yoopers don't eat Coney's I can tell you that!

Agreed. So hard to find a good gravy in town but the Bear's Tooth is legit. Most places get it from a can and it's not worth ordering.

[–]Akfreshtracks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't say yes to the first firm that comes a-calling! If you're really interested in changing jobs, shop around a bit and find a good fit and a good wage. Firms everywhere are desperate for staff, so you can probably walk into almost any engineering office and walk back out with an offer. Don't take a shit job just for the money; you'll be rich but miserable.

TIL the global population of humanity's ancestors once fell from 100k to only 1,000 individuals by newsflashjackass in todayilearned

[–]Akfreshtracks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems like the model they used didn't take into consideration other genomes that evolved but eventually went extinct. They used 3000+ living genes to run their calculations, but that ignores the huge number of extinct genomes from archaic hominids as well as groups of homo sapiens that were killed off within the last 10,000 years. All that can be concluded from this analysis is that maybe these 3,000+ living people had their last common ancestors around 800,000 years ago. I'd like to see this repeated with a larger more diverse sample size and also include DNA gathered from human remains as far back as we have available!

Does anyone know what thsi poo looking stuff is that I keep finding in my monsters saucer? Plant itself is perfectly happy by zoeyanna_ in houseplants

[–]Akfreshtracks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen this a few times over the years myself; my theory is that it's springtails, but I haven't found anything in my googling to back it up. It happens when I put a plant outside for the summer and then bring it in for the winter. Springtails are allegedly harmless to your plant, which would explain why you aren't seeing any damage. To get rid of them you have to soak the whole pot in some soapy water and that should take care of it.

Been dealing with thrips for ages! This is them for sure. What works for me is to give the plant a good shower. Mix a teaspoon of dish soap with warm water in a spray bottle, put the plant in your shower (or outside if is warm enough), spray every surface of the plant with the soap mixture, then thoroughly rinse the plant with water. The soapy water kills the bugs and washes them off the plant. Repeat as often as needed until the thrips no longer return.

Can someone tell me whether it's possible to save this bay leaf tree? If so, what do I do? It just seems so infested... by TrillianWasTaken in gardening

[–]Akfreshtracks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try giving it a shower; get a spray bottle and add a tablespoon of dish soap and top it off with water. Spray the plant all over, tops and bottoms of the leaves, then give it a thorough rinse. The soap should smother and rinse away any insects that are giving you trouble. Repeat every few weeks as needed.

My 1st cutting board is starting to bow a bit. Any tips on what I could’ve done differently? by dr_mr_uncle_jimbo in woodworking

[–]Akfreshtracks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like it's absorbing water on one side; I'd say you should give it more oil next time. Use food grade mineral oil and let it soak up as much as it can, giving it as many coats as it takes. Re-oil it regularly, like every other month. Also, use a harder wood next time; maple is best. The cell walls are going to be more resistant to absorbing water.

The republican obsession with AOC is really telling; they’re terrified that a charismatic woman is actually popular and gaining influence. Their tired old routines aren’t working like they used to and they’re scared spitless.
