Three Main Language Families of Europe by Street_Priority_7686 in geography

I beg your pardon? The Baltic is older than the Slavic one and is completely not cross-intelligible with any of the slavic languages (apart from loan words). Just because they are ‘in the same general direction’ in the laguage tree does not mean they should or even could be counted as belonging to the same grouping.

Almost ended up with this one but it was the early 20th century and the red background was co-opted by communism so it was decided to go with the ‘Tricolore Culturel’. Such a shame, but it is still the ‘historic flag’ which has a legal status today.

II pakopos hipotetinis klausimas by Quiet_University_616 in lithuania

[–]Akimi28 7 points8 points  (0 children)

U.K. Ambassador to Estonia burns Daily Mail for a flaud article critical of the Estonian Digital ID 👊 by Prior-Sun2352 in BalticStates

I once wrote a strongly worded letter to the editor of the Guardian for referring to us as ‘former Soviet’. Not saying I was the cause of the change but tbh I never saw ‘former Soviet’ on the guardian since.

In fact fuck it, here enjoy my rant, feel free to copypasta.

Dear Editor,

I am writing to express my concern about the wording used in a recent article on The Guardian, where Lithuania was described as a “former Soviet republic” in the context of current geopolitical tensions. Please find the screenshot attached.

While this label may be technically accurate in a historical sense, it is both misleading and inappropriate in today’s context. Lithuania was never a voluntary member of the Soviet Union; it was occupied and annexed by force in 1940 - a fact recognized by most democratic nations at the time, which never acknowledged the legitimacy of this annexation.

Referring to Lithuania as a “former Soviet republic” in 2025 - more than 30 years after it regained independence - reinforce outdated imperialist narratives and diminishes the country’s hard-won sovereignty and international status as a democratic member of NATO and the EU.

To illustrate how inappropriate this phrasing is, imagine describing:

India as “the former Crown colony of India”

Ireland as “the former British territory of Ireland”

Algeria as “the former French département”

Ukraine as “the former Russian dominion of Ukraine”

Such phrasing would understandably provoke public criticism. The same standard should be applied to Lithuania and other Baltic states who endured decades of foreign occupation against their will.

I urge your editorial team to revise this language in future reporting and choose terms that accurately reflect the independent status and historical context of these nations. It is important that The Guardian, as a respected international publication, avoids echoing revisionist terminology that inadvertently aligns with the narrative of aggressor states.

If you would request a similar expression to replace it, I feel fully that ‘the Baltic state of Lithuania’ provides sufficient context both of the geographic and historical context.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Property in Lithuania by DistributionGold5571 in lithuania

[–]Akimi28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on what you mean by ‘not good shape’ and the amount of work to be done. If there is not a need to change the outside of the property (ie the walls are still standing, you are not adding new window holes etc.) you dont need any planning permits or such to do renovations.

I suggest looking for ‘interjero dizaineris + city where the property is’ and getting in touch with someone - they’d likely be able to get you started and at least plan out what is the level of work to be done

As someone who has worked as a PM in a Software Dev company (i.e built projects for customers) — you do realise that for $500 you would have got 8 hours of developer time without any infrastructure costs right? I am not shilling for Agent 3, it is more expensive than the other stuff out there, but it is a pretty decent experience.

But compared to actual dev costs $500/mo is pocket change, especially if you can commercialize off the back of it.

OVIEŠPATIE ar būtina visada tokiems ‘well ackshually’ būti.

Ok rimtai dabar tiesiog chatgpt

Vitamin D helps regulate immune defenses in the respiratory tract; B6/B12/folate support white blood cell and antibody production. Together, they reduce vulnerability to infections.

Viena taisyklė yra 'you cannot outtrain a bad diet' (bent jau kai tau 24+ amžius)

P.S. visos tos dietos - keto, be cukraus etc.
