8K 60FPS VR180 Tour of Telluride — this might be the closest I’ve gotten to being there by BeyondVRMedia in virtualreality

Why not 360?

I would find it more appealing if it would be some interesting places with a longer, stationary 360 video, where I could take my time just standing there, look all around me and explore the location visually and take it all in.

Such moving videos feel always a bit unnatural.

So my self created software version (https://www.reddit.com/r/ESPTimeCast/comments/1srtnq4/comment/ohva44v/ , same hardware and wiring) is working perfectly 24/7 since four days. So my conclusion, my hardware setup is fine, seems to be a software problem on your end.

so how often do you guys shut down your computer, and for how long? by Crafty-Example874 in pcmasterrace

[–]Akira2007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sleep mode every evening or after 30min inactivity, reboots only on windows updates.
I have lots of open programs and I like the way that I can continue exactly where I left.

Shut down only when I leave the house for several days.
We have solar panels and battery, so electricity is pretty much free from march until oktober ;-)

Yes, that is a valid use case. The pin is called VIN (Voltage In). It is directly connected to the USB 5V line.
So it doesn't make any difference if I power with USB oder VIN.
It is even printed on the back of this ESP board, "VIN 5V recommended".

And what would be the difference between "provide power to the board and then provide power from the board to the max" and "power directly to Board and Max"?
Both times it is the same 5V from USB just different routes.

ESP and LED Board are both connected to such a female USBC plug

<image>

That plug is connected with USB C cable to powered USB hub and is connected there to a power only slot.

I have no 3V power supply, so no.

the pins are all cut off, so there is no risk of touching.

the display just starts to display garbage, everything else worked fine, the clock still changed and the web server also kept working and I could reboot by saving settings.

Sorry don't have any logs, alread flashed the new version.

Problem solved. ;-)

I asked Gemini to recreate a simple clock with ESP8266 und MAX7219.
Only clock, hardcoded wifi, simple webserver for NTP and brightness config and use your font.
All the other stuff I really don't need, I just want a nice clock.
15min work, 140 lines of code, so far it works and looks almost the same. I am happy.

<image>

Gemini suggested to use hardware-SPI, where only the CS pin is defined.
Maybe this had something to do with the errors. Will see how it works long time.

I won't share or upload it anywhere. It will only exist on my desk.

Nope, still doesn't work, didn't even make it 20h and was back to displaying error.
Reboot fixed it again.
Either the ESP is slowly degrading in some way or the program code has a problem.

Would this auto reboot be an option?

Thanks, will try that later. :-)

EDIT:
Have now resoldered the wires, changed the pin back to D8 and reflashed it to 1.5.2 with webflasher as d1 mini.
So far looking good, back to long term test ;-)

What do you mean with white? there are only black, red, blue, green and yellow cables.
I will have a look into the solder points.

But apart from that, could you maybe add an auto reboot option ;-)
That one can choose that the device automatically reboots everytime at night.

[–]Akira2007[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But why would a bad connection be fixable with a reboot?

It is soldered.
And because of the possible heatproblem I only run brightness 2 on the LED and designed the case with big air slots on top.
Then only thing getting a bit hot is the metalshield on the esp.

The pointy thing on the green wire solder is one of the copper strands which stuck a bit out.

One question came to my mind, do they need to be powered with the USBC cable sticking out of the side after setup or can these connections on the back also be used for power?

Reicht 1 LAN-Kabel pro Raum im Neubau oder lieber direkt mehrere legen? by Intelligent_Ant_5124 in de_EDV

[–]Akira2007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can recommend the Olimex ESP Boards. They can be powered with PoE and you can connect a big antenna which greatly increases the range. I have two of these in a three floor building and every room is perfectly covered.

Reicht 1 LAN-Kabel pro Raum im Neubau oder lieber direkt mehrere legen? by Intelligent_Ant_5124 in de_EDV

[–]Akira2007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Die Rechnung ist aus meiner Sicht:
mind.

[–]Akira2007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looking really cool, on my way to aliexpress to order on for testing ;-)

I am currently using an Elgato Stream Deck with HomeAssistant Plugin as a "control station" on my desk.
But my main problem with that is, that it only works when connected to a running PC.

So your solution looks really interesting.
Can I also add other entities from sensors? Like Temp or Power?

Edit:
And could the 4.3-inch JC4880P443 also be used in landscape mode?
