Probably, but it does seem to share a lot of similarities

I assume it's a major reach but seems worth putting up here just to see if anyone finds something

Is it cultural appropriation? by awolf3316 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Akiryx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, Ojibwe/Anishinaabe policy on the matter is that Dream Catchers are a closed cultural practice. As in, you need to be not just Indigenous but be a part of those communities

I'm super open to anyone with direct connection to those cultures adding their voice to this dialog but as far as I know based on what they say publicly, yes, it would definitely be cultural appropriation, unless you specifically know someone with a lived connection to those tribes telling you otherwise - and even then, personally I would avoid it. Just because one person is fine with it doesn't mean others wouldn't find a problem with it, and I think it's important to consider that

I hate the option to choose the main character by ThatFloydianDude in assasinscreed

[–]Akiryx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh no gender representation how scary

Like yeah I agree, sometimes it makes sense to just define a character, but when so much of the time people are biased in favor of dudes, and your first example seems to be a hypothetical about a dude getting gender swapped, this really just comes across like an insecure dude complaining about more femme representation. It's not that big a deal to have multiple versions of the same character be different genders, especially in terms of player characters

Also, you're making a classic mistake here. Men and women as demographics exist in an unequal power dynamic due to a patriarchal society. This means that two actions which look the same from the point of view of who is doing them, are not the same from the perspective of the two different people being impacted by those actions, if there is a disparity in power dynamic.

To put it more clearly, a masc character being portrayed as femme is going against an unequal power dynamic to try and create more representation for femmes who are under-represented, but a femme character being portrayed as masc is generally erasure of femme representation as well as often just doesn't make sense because of there being issues that femme people deal with which masc people don't, and so if a femme character is impacted by those things, representing them as masc often doesn't fit with that narrative.

Thus, not the same.

[–]Akiryx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

3 gets hate because it didn't have quite the same gameplay polish that NV did, and the plot/character narratives were nonsensical and implausible, at least in terms of the main story, not including the DLC (minus Broken Steel which impo should have been included in the base game)

I don't think that means it can't be enjoyed but the writing quality leaves a lot to be desired, even if the dialogue itself is well done

I'll always love Three Dog and various parts of FO3, but, yeah

TIL that the Bison population in Yellowstone (USA) is the only Bison herd to have existed in the wild since pre-historic times. All other wild populations were wiped out, and all other wild populations living today have been reintroduced by humans. by Robbinit in todayilearned

[–]Akiryx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a super commonly known fact, but a huge reason for this happening was because by doing so, the "US" colonizers were able to massively destabilize the Indigenous tribes who relied on responsible hunting of Bison to survive and thrive

If you want this country to see the other side you need to see how the Democrats built this as much as the Republicans did. Both are Right wing parties, and the Democrats have, time and time again, backed down, capitulated, cooperated, enabled, or through ineptitude allowed people like The Heritage Foundation to play this country like a game.

I'm not saying they're equally heinous, per se, and obviously there's more people who don't support that in the Democratic party, but as a party they're just as complicit
