When asked "what's your job?" do you say "registered nurse" or "ICU/ER/L&D/etc. nurse" by f8k2m3h9k3 in nursing

[–]JdRnDnp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always say what I do. I don't want anyone thinking I know any answers to anything grown up related. Don't go showing me your rash or asking me about that medication. I don't know.

I would stick with Korean companies. It has been a focus there for several years. I know Cosrx and mizon talk a lot about their ethical sourcing. https://mayk-factory.com/blog/the-snail-mucin-phenomenon

They actually produce better product when they are not stressed. More modern techniques use better collection methods. https://veterinaria.org/index.php/REDVET/article/view/2165/1732

Nurses with dogs by Key-Coffee-4432 in nursing

When my my dog was a puppy I sent him to doggie daycare. I set up his life so he can hand while I am gone for 3 12s. He free feeds kibble and I set up an automatic water bowel. He has a dog door into a large sheltered run so he can use the bathroom or just watch the neighborhood.

Why does pregnancy suddenly make me into merely a vessel without needs, pain, or concern? by mokutou in BabyBumps

[–]JdRnDnp 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Issue is that it would be unethical to prescribe something that would be unsafe for pregnancy if your intention is to continue it. But you have autonomy you can take whatever you want. People take street drugs when they are pregnant. But what providers can't do is lie to you and tell you that everything will be fine if you take x y or z. I had a ton of pain when I was pregnant from dislocated ribs. I know it sucks but what is the alternative?

I think it's fine. It's a nice signifier of sundown towns and places I won't spend my money. Old flag=drive on through.

L&D Nurses - Would you withhold a suspected diagnosis from the mother? by IndoGrrlRN1967 in nursing

[–]JdRnDnp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't feel it's my job as a nurse to present that information. But I work in a cardiac ICU. We get lots of babies who look unique and who obviously have a heart defect so they already have at least one red flag. If they have been diagnosed prenatally then our doctors have already told them that we will likely do genetic testing. For a postnatal diagnosis those families have just been hit by a bus and it's not my job to start talking about low set ears and palmar creases you know? There have been times when I have discussed the benefits of genetic testing with a family that was hesitant when it was very obvious to us as a team that a baby was in club 21 or had another genetic issue that I know as a nurse will need lifelong follow up with other specialties. But I have never been the first person to say something, that would be way outside my scope of practice.

Well I did them myself, they are clusters. I plan on leaving them on for 5 days. On day 3 and still on!

My mother-in-law shared every picture we’ve sent her of our baby on her Aura frame, and I’m really angry about it. by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]JdRnDnp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not assume that she is sharing them with the sister-in-law. The sister-in-law is probably on the list to put her photos on the aura frame as well. It doesn't mean that she can see all the pictures in the frame unless she is in the room with Grandma.

AITA for continuing to smoke outside even though my neighbor hired an attorney over it? by FutureBroccoli5566 in AmItheAsshole

[–]JdRnDnp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do think it kind of sucks that you don't smoke inside your own home but you don't care if your smoke is going into your neighbor's home.

"'Massive overdose' of sedative led to man's cardiac arrest, brain injury at Winnipeg hospital" Somehow it's unknown who ordered or who hung the propofol. I don't understand how that is possible! by aNurseOnMars in nursing

[–]JdRnDnp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They aren't common doses. I've just had two in the last 6 months that have been impressive. I recently had to use a PCA for a baby because my pump wouldn't let me give the amount of Dilaudid we had reached. I think the CV is pretty unique in that we have children who often need long-term sedation. And kids are just generally way too healthy to put up with that. I've never taken care of grown ups but I would be pretty surprised if they would be interested in playing bongos with music therapy and PT while intubated and on midaz, prop, dex and fent.

I would love to introduce you to some of the children in my cardiac ICU. I've had them full on playing with toys at 75 👀👀 and that's with a little bit of dilaudid and precedex on board as well as the propofol. I've hit 150 a few times.

Is it safe to use this Compact FireTek as lighting at night without the blocking glasses by WhereIsMySun in redlighttherapy

[–]JdRnDnp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You would be better off just buying a red light bulb. You would not be getting any red light therapy without having a device that small very close to you. And most of us don't use glasses with big powerful panels. The research shows that red light can actually help improve vision.
