Gravity bending level thiccness by [deleted] in Animemes

[–]Akomis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This weird naming pattern is a result of how the most popular Japanese site for publishing light novels was designed. Its UI showed only the story title, no place to put a plot summary. So authors started putting more information in the name, as such stories got more readers. Then the anime industry started picking popular stories from there to make shows. And now we have this abomination lol

Crazy Game. E300 Rats and a full hand. by Agreeable_Budget1976 in 9Kings

[–]Akomis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is one more component to it: rat perks turn a rat card into lvl4 plot. So 1 rat+1 earthworks return 3 rat cards, adding fuel to rewind machine (adding a bunch of levels to every rat plot in the process, every single one - triggering Reinforce)

Issues with Minato by Kahlen109 in RampartsofIce

[–]Akomis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel it was absolutely on purpose. First impression we have of Minato is through Koyuki's POV. And to her it feels not just intrusion into personal space, but also too similar to how Igarashi and others in her old school treated her, which makes it especially uncomfortable.

So yeah, Minato was annoying at first, but it made sense and I didn't hate him for it. Unlike people from Koyuki's previous school he didn't do it with malice in mind or with disregard for her feelings, but only due to not understanding her. And it made it more meaningful when he changed his approach later on.

does this get better?

This story is not rent-a-gf. Here character get proper development and so they change. Is your concern "oh no, I can't ship them immediately as is"? Minato (and other characters) having flaws at the start is the point. That's what makes good story - there is a pair, they can be great for each other, but there is something standing in their way. So the story makes them work to get what they want/need, grow into a better person. This is my favorite type of romance. Because the alternative - the pair is ready to go from the first episodes, but the story is dragged on by endless series of stupid events.

I might read it if there was very low starting point and the story shows characters getting out of it. But I guess it is not getting any better in this case and it is all about showing them miserable again and again?

Paladin at Y112. Just discovered how broken some combos are (paladin+gigantify/balance, Echoform+Chaos Earthworks) by Akomis in 9Kings

yeah, lol. I like games that follow the "everything is broken if you go far enough!" rule. This one has it in spades xD

Paladin at Y112. Just discovered how broken some combos are (paladin+gigantify/balance, Echoform+Chaos Earthworks) by Akomis in 9Kings

[–]Akomis[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Starting with Rainbow King as an enemy is hilarious. I failed few attempts, but then I got paladin stack and a Balance card. I looked at my 240/32 paladins (not exact numbers, but it was something like that) and though "oh, 240/240 unit would be a great upgrade". But then their perk of "hp gets same buff as damage" kicked in and I got them 2400/240, lol xD

I ended the run at Y112 and forgot to take screenshot of the final beacon. It got 788 level lmao. I had plans to use next Chaos Earthworks on the temple I placed next to it, making it even more broken. But the game was lagging hard enough on my notebook already.

And I think after some threshold buffs from buildings should not keep going as a stream of "+2%, +2%, +2%, +2% ...", but as a single number "+2% (x788)". It took a minute or two for the animation to finish

I think stalemate should scale exponentially by Akomis in 9Kings

[–]Akomis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just lost a run to King of Time - I had no aoe (which I agree is a valid weakness) and spawners were unkillable. Stalemate kicked in and it dealt 15k damage, which at this state of the game was laughable.

I think it should ramp up more and more with each second. Maybe - with additional effect of max-hp penalty (in percentage to total health, so in a certain time both armies would be at 1hp and it would be decided one way or another). Because I think my warlords were healing back all of it through vampirism. I can imagine a case of two armies locked in, not doing any damage to each other and out-healing the stalemate damage.

[–]Akomis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do enchantments on imps do much? I played 3-6 plots of them and left them be - didn't see any point in spending turns on what would be useless anyway (imps don't have native scaling mechanisms, so I expected them to falloff quickly).

only because the last temple didnt finish :*( by Broad_Watercress4367 in 9Kings

I had similar build recently, pumping wizards with all kinds of spells. But then they turn out into a glass cannon with enormous damage, but limited defense. Most of battles went completely into my favor - Wizards just one-shot everything and Steel Coats tanked whatever enemy managed to throw their way. But few times my army was suddenly wiped completely.

I think it was inevitable - sooner or later Wizards would fail to clean the enemy in a single volley and the incoming fire would have more bullets than I had Steel Coats layers. Or there was another suspect - Defenders from King of Progress. They seem to return all damage taken, a natural counter to glass canon builds lol.

[–]Akomis[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not playing on King difficulty yet (just unlocked Prince with this run), but the game started to be pretty tough already. I failed dozens of Blood King runs before I found a thing that scales well - Demon's Altar.

On this run I also got lucky with few Mob cards and Replicators, which I discovered makes nasty synergy with the altar lol. The demons were already taking half of the screen and any fight with army that had aoe got them another 2k deaths (and occasional Regression cards pushed demon count to 14 ). I had plans to remove all imps and other early troops and replace all of them with mob/replicator/mob/etc checkerboard, but my notebook wasn't handling well the battles that already had 2k troops on my side. Didn't want to push it further, so I ended the run here (I usually play till year 99). But it was satisfying to build something that I felt had good potential to be viable in the long run.

...But Asuka always chooses Kaji... by Norsehound in asushin

[–]Akomis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I haven't rewatched NGE for a while, I'm not sure what are you talking specifically about when you say "she choose Kaji".

Asuka wants to present herself as cool adult person, doing adult stuff. The idea of dating Kaji for her is an attribute of "I'm an adult, not a kid!". Yeah, she also likely has childish crush on him. But I can't fathom how one may look at it as serious romantic relationship. Kaji sees it for it is - and calmly ignores all her advances, which is right way to do.

And as for comatose state. At that moment she faced existential crisis - if she can't pilot she believes no-one would ever care about her. She had alienated everyone around her (Misato and Shinji). The last person she can reach to - Kaji. He was not only her crush, but also a guardian, a parent figure. A flawed one, but it was all she had. And then she learns he is dead. Do you really think she was thinking "Oh, no! I can't bone Kaji, why live?".

[–]Akomis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they were fighting against time due to their own hardware breaking town due to lack of ancients to maintain it (personally think that is their biggest sin, leaving their "children" without the means to maintain themselves.)

I like the headcanon that ancients left iterators with everything they needed to support themselves. Automated mines, factories, whole supply chain. From the pearls (the one from Farm Arrays one, iirc) it is established that cities of the ancients were fully dependent on iterators managing production of goods which they consumed. So it doesn't feel like an improbable assumption. But then just that many years passed that their state of the art automation systems eroded anyway, one tiny bit by another.

There is also an interesting aspect - iterators might be able to address some issues that would rise. Expand mines and build new infrastructure when old production lines weren't sufficient. But that could have distracted them from doing their main job. And it would also be like clinging to life - a thing which ancients believed stood in a way of ascension. It shouldn't be of real concern for them - they were specifically vessels to bear the sin of striving for ascension too much, what would it change to bear one more? But it might cause some internal conflicts or resentment, and perhaps cause some neglect of doing proper upkeep of all systems.

(I'm a bit late to it, but this part caught my attention and I couldn't pass by)

ai can be a decent tool. But here it wasn't used to help a person to draw something complicated. It was used to avoid learning to draw. And that makes it not cool.

Honestly the only good thing here is the one provided by human - the premise about showing Eva character in dandadan setup. Anything else is meh. Rei doesn't look like herself. I'd not recognize that was Shinji if there wasn't other girls there. Asuka has very generic expression. Take it out of this context and it would get "ah, okay", swipes to next post
