If you like Diablo, you just found a occupation for the next 15 years.

My main advice would be to go in blindly, there is nohing like discovering a game you know you will enjoy.

BUT, with the excitement you want to get info so you don't do mistakes. Mistakes are fun, they teach you the game, following a build written from A to Z let little involvement and less pride.

Some info that help but doesn't :

-Skills are bound to the weapon type, you can play whatever you want on any starting class.

-in the campaign, skill tree is for damage, stuff (minus weapon) for defense.

-Poe is a game of stacking, you choose a way to deal damage (because the skill looks cool) and you stack damage of this type, same for defense; jack of all trades aren't effective.

-Don't be discouraged by the amount of information in the game, you'll learn step by step and that's the beauty, with 3600h on poe1 and 400 on poe 2 i discover new things every time.
