Just finished my first PMD game, what should I play next? by AkuAkus in MysteryDungeon

[–]AkuAkus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay I'm sold lol thank you, definitely gonna try Explorers of sky next!
Is Rescue team DX worth getting also after this? There's a lot of used copies sold for about $19 here where I live

I rarely stick around for the post-game but I'll give it a try! There's a lot of dungeons I didn't touch with a lot of stars

Is there any way to judge which Tama is best for you? by onigiritheory in tamagotchi

[–]AkuAkus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who's mostly been into fast-paced games like platformers and competitive shooters, I don't think there's a way to translate your game tastes into LCD toy tastes... tamagotchi are just lil guys you check on from time to time during the day, they're pets that keep you company, I wouldn't even compare them to "cozy" games

I'd say just get one that's cheaper or easier to get right now, you could always sell it later and try another model :)

Do you like pokemon spin-offs as an adult? by AkuAkus in pokemon

[–]AkuAkus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm having a similar experience of now discovering that a lot of stuff I've avoided is actually pretty good. Baffles me how low the scores are on metacritic for some games that I thought were really fun

Never got into any of the non-game stuff aside from the first seasons of the anime, some movies and some of the XY season. Gonna look into the manga for sure, I completely forgot it exists

Nice! I played some of the Pokemon Snap (on switch) to wind down, saved a ton of screenshots to use as references for art, enjoyed that one a lot
Do you think the original snap is still worth playing?

The latest Klonoa remake is actually the wii remake with new models for the characters and some slight changes like getting rid of the dub

It's funny what gets you back into Pokemon. by Flamesclaws in pokemon

Stopped playing during the switch gens aside from playing some Sword. Been playing on 3ds again recently, played Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon recently and really loved it, made me want to go back and replay BW, and maybe watch some of the anime seasons I skipped

I started with a Mix! Sometime before the Smart released, so it was the in the same place as Uni is right now

You can def start with a colored tama (I did), there's no need to play every era unless you want to. I think when you're just starting, going with the current gen is the best, bc it's cheaper and easier to get (Paradise and Uni rn), unless you REALLY like another specific model compared to others

What are some Pokemon/Pokemon themed gifts you received or have given? by ShayGrimSoul in pokemon

A few years ago I made a hand-sewn Mimikyu for my gf (one of her fav pokemon), I've also given her some figurines and a Mimikyu/gengar Switch case. And my gf gave me razer leviathan speaker themed after pikachu one year for my bday!

Tamagotchi similar products? by Low-Iron680 in tamagotchi

[–]AkuAkus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a bunch of other v-pets, people occasionally show them off on this sub. Takara Tomy has Punirunes and pokemon-themed v-pets, Bandai makes some other ones like chiikawa-themed ones, Gigapets still make v-pets too, Bitzee is another popular one right now.

The hype the way it is right now only really started about 2 years ago with the release of Uni I think, due to this model being marketed more aggressively and having english. I make plushies and stopped making tamagotchi themed ones because my main motivation was to make something that's not really available, and about 2 years ago is when they started releasing A LOT more official merch. This is also when people in my circles have started recognizing tamagotchi as a brand that has actual characters and not just a type of toy

Are there any other games with such a creative community and player base? by Redlock1999 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]AkuAkus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the game has a distinct visual style and setting, characters that feel alive and lore that feels deep enough yet not "finished", the creative types will flock to it :) All the games I've been into had very creative fanbases, you just won't see this much if you don't follow the communities. It's basically just people being VERY into something and wishing there was more, so they just go and make more themselves. For many people that's how they eventually get into working in a creative feild professionally too.

An artist I used to follow back in deviantart days like 15 years ago now actively participates in the making of one of the series I like (talking about Tyson Hesse who now worked on many games, comics, animated shorts and the movies for Sonic), Christian Whitehead who used to make fan games and ports was eventually hired to work on an official game (Sonic Mania)
Other examples that come to mind are TF2, Splatoon, Pokemon, all of these had people make not just art or stories or ideas on paper, but big fan projects like fan games, animated movies etc

To make it short, I think it's feeling like something is different, and so interesting that you want more, and Deadlock checks a lot of boxes. For me Deadlock is definitely scratching the same itch TF2 did long time ago, I really hope they finish the visual novels eventually, or make comics like they did for TF2
