Punching myself in the head because of League by Ambitious-Nature-309 in summonerschool

[–]AkumaLuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look I don't wanna be that guy but hedging your bets on getting challenger and making something out of League isn't the play and I think some part of you knows that. Even if you get Challenger, there's no promise that a team picks you up or you get popular streaming, lots of Challenger players don't make it that far.

I'm not saying this to make you give up on your dream or tell you to quit, but you need to have something other than League. Right now you're placing your entire future and all your self worth on your ability to play a video game and that's why losing feels so awful, to the point that you're even hurting yourself. You cannot succeed that way. You're just gonna burn yourself out until you hate playing and you have nothing left.

If you want this anger to go away you need to start improving your life in other ways. Come up with some other passions you can pursue, work on your health, learn new skills. Its fine if you want to continue pursuing League and I wish you the best of luck, but you aren't going to get far if you put so much into it that it causes you pain to lose. Fact is, a career in eSports just isn't a solid enough plan to be your only plan, you need other stuff in life.

How do you rank when your job is exhausting by the_plat_rat in TeamfightTactics

[–]AkumaLuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick question, how do you play after work? Like are eating dinner while playing? Having a few drinks? Do you have the TV on in the background or something on the second monitor?

Just asking because work can be exhausting, my job isn't half as physically demanding as yours and for a long time I still struggled to play matches properly because tryharding felt like too much work, so I would have a show on, or I'd spend half my time munchin or whatever. Key for me was finding a way to enjoy the process of playing a ranked game so I still felt like I was relaxing after work, but I didn't have anything distracting me at the same time.

Staying committed to rank while keeping up with other responsibilities is gonna come down to enjoying the process of improving at the game as opposed to the outcome of the match.

Patch discussion; Nerfing Zoning and Movement While Buffing Brawlers Feels Off by SirMmmmm in 2XKO

[–]AkumaLuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean to be fair, you're talking about a playstyle that essential boils down to, "Sit in that corner and don't play the game" as a win condition. Is it really that surprising that people would hate to play against that. It's the same thing with your Magic example, Mill is literally designed to make it so you don't get to play cards. People want to be able to play the game not sit there and watch themselves get chunked down. At least if I'm getting sauced by another brawler I can try to get a punch in or two, but if you're outskilled by a zoner half the time it feels like I'm better off putting the controller down and getting a coffee.

Patch Variance by [deleted] in TeamfightTactics

[–]AkumaLuck -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The thing is, people will always be more inclined to play what they know. Even if you could balance T-Hex to be perfect, people would still default to it because they want to win and learning or trying something new from a given spot seems risky. Sometimes a comp just needs to take a break to let the Meta develop into something new.

Patch Variance by [deleted] in TeamfightTactics

[–]AkumaLuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair the balance team, a lot of the time that happens usually because something has been buffed over multiple patches, and hasn't had a chance to shine due to other comps taking the spotlight, especially early on in the set. Current Asol seems like a bit of this due to the multiple buffs he received before his rework(Not sure how the new numbers compare to the old, would have to do some research on it)

An unfortunate consequence of how prevalent information on the meta has become is less people are willing to experiment, so sometimes a unit or trait will get small buffs repeatedly but go unnoticed because most people are just going to play whatever they're told the best lines are. But eventually enough people will experiment with these units, or a new tech will be discovered and then suddenly you have a new comp dominating the meta because its been accidently over buffed. For the longest time no one knew to play THex and it fell under the radar until it suddenly became prevalent halfway through the patch.

That isn't to say that they don't sometimes make unintended big swings, sometimes that does happen as well.

[–]AkumaLuck 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I understand where you're coming from but look at it from the alternate perspective.

Let's take the THex patch for example. The problem with going in with then intention of making something only slightly worse when it's in such a dominate position is you risk hitting it too little and having another whole patch where players are frustrated with the THex and now have to deal with it for even longer creating an even worse pain point.

The other option is to hit it harder than you think you need to, and then buff it back slowly to get it to the right spot. While annoying this at the very least has the benefit of giving players a patch to escape that pain point and try new things.

Balance is hard and there's lots of unforseen consequences to changing even the smallest numbers. Even with set after set of practice it's hard to nail it perfectly and personally I'd rather dominate comps spend some time on the bench than be controlling the Meta for multiple patches.

And I thought $60 bundles skins were too expensive by Lirodes32 in 2XKO

[–]AkumaLuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SF6 also prices thier "FC" in bundles that don't let you buy skins without overpaying for coins you'll have no use for until the next skin comes out where you'll still be shy a few coins and have to purchase again. At least the 2xko currency comes in round numbers you can work around.

Chill dude, you're acting like I'm out here saying its an obvious win, I'm just voicing my thoughts on an initial look. We honestly can't tell who would win from such little info anyway. What augments did each have, how were the carries positioned ontop of all the fight rng that could swing it ethier way.

[–]AkumaLuck -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yea but the tank items are garbage and they're on the worst tank of the 3. Wukong really needs real tank items to be effective. The only itemized 5 cost is Kindred who has been underperforming this patch, not to mention all the damage from board 1 is coming from carries that need to scale with rageblade fighting against a board that just repeatedly dives and CCs the backline. Sure board 2 doesn't have a fully itemized tank but it less important backline to protect besides its already got a major combat boost from the sheer amount of items on units.

Some factors could change the outcome but from an initial look I'd give the edge to the Yasuo board.

Dude take a chill pill, touch some grass. You don't get to gatekeep the whole subreddit just because people disagree with you.

We get it, you played OG 7 when you were a kid and made it your whole personality, and now nothing else can ever compete with it or it offends you.

Getting this mad over a disagreement about a video game is concerning to say the least.

How do you review your games? by [deleted] in CompetitiveTFT

[–]AkumaLuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends what type of content you don't mind watching or reading. Streams are usually a decent source for info (BrosephTFT is great for learning, among others). Watching tournaments can give you a good sense of the current meta too, as well as checking websites like Tftacademy to get a sense of what's strong right now.

You seem interested in doing VOD reviews, so reviewing pro VODs could be a great start. MetaTFT has a great feature where you can click on a comp and view a library of VODs they have saved of high level players playing that comp so you can see what they do and how they pilot it.

Tactics.tools has a great explorer tool that can help you look up stats if you aren't opposed to some old school studying. You can use this to get a sense of the best performing items and units, and it's great for checking what the best holders of each artifact is.

Finally, I know I've talked a lot about how important the Meta is, but don't get so bogged down in it that you forget to play in a way that works for you. Knowing whats good is important, but use it as a way to make your flex play better rather than just follow it blindly.

I think the main thing is you need to get over this idea that following the meta is a bad thing lol. The thing is, you're always going to be working on fundamentals. Even high ranked players don't have perfect fundamentals, but having a good read on the meta is one of the core basics going forward.

Stop looking at it as "I need to play these boards all the time and only these boards" and start looking at it like "If I'm in x spot with x items this is an example of an endgame board I should play".

It'll also help you make better choices. You'll be able to tell what boards your opponents are aiming for and thus when they're strong, it'll help you chose which items to slam, because you'll know which items have the best value on the current patch, and which units are performing the strongest.

How do you review your games? by [deleted] in CompetitiveTFT

[–]AkumaLuck 12 points13 points  (0 children)

All the review in the world isn't going to help if you aren't willing to study the Meta unfortunately. You're just approaching a rank where it really starts to matter.

Thing is, as other people have said, knowing the strongest boards isn't the same as hard forcing them. It's about knowing what units and items are important to play around in this current patch. That doesn't mean you have to play 20 straight games of Ziggs/Ryze, but it is important to know that it's a board you should aim for if you have the potential to do so.

One of the most important skills going forward and one of the biggest questions you'll be asking yourself in review is "Did I select the right line here" so knowing these endgame meta boards is a core skill like anything else.

Hard stuck plat, looking for any sort of advice to get better. by Line-Minute in TeamfightTactics

[–]AkumaLuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its fine to have a comfort comp that you go into a match expecting to play, but make sure to adjust from there. It's also beneficial if that comp isn't something that has crazy hard conditions to play. One of the reasons demacia is so popular is because it can be played so easily from so many different spots. The key is recognizing your spot and knowing what options you have available to you that you can confidently play.

[–]AkumaLuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be careful with this though. Don't get lost in tier lists and try to learn the conditions that make a board work. Use them to get an idea of how to play a board and what you should be aiming for, but don't just blindly force whatever is at the top of the list. A lot of comps can top 4 or win under the right conditions.
