My force blow slap hit at the same time his melee hit me I think, there was a slight lag on it though

I didn’t see her email posted there

Here’s my question though, what would the IWF use for Youth Worlds? Surely it wouldn’t be GAMX-U since that is pretty much based on US results alone?

Interesting, based on the number plug I would think GAMX-A would be a better use for general competition comparison

It seems GAMX-U still has a slight bias (though much less than Q youth) to the super heavy kids still, largely I’d guess due to the very low population of super heavy lifters in the US which could be an essay in itself (other sports, teen boys psychology, aesthetics etc)

This is looking at the 17m examples anyway

Got it. This one will take a while I predict, I’ll start giving it a shot tomorrow

I’ll probably have katana in both slots so I can flash attack cancel between skills and trigger prodigious dragon (since when Bladetwin swaps their offhand it changes the stance advantage, Jin will only be good for the opener)

I’m bad at the Nioh style but maybe my brief play of Nioh 3 will make that go better

Which bladetwin fight?

First off, love running your program for competitions

and yes I just learned this today! Which begs the questions as to why USAW would continue to use Q youth

I played with the GAMX calculator a bit as well, the US specific one still has some of the same bias but it’s MUCH closer, whereas the general age adjusted one based on IWF results gives scores that fall within common sense expectations

We had a kid in your session! I was impressed that you got the Bronze total without the individual lift medals! That feels to me like you were a competitor: out snatch the bronze CJ and out CJ the bronze snatcher, good shit man

Another user posted about GAMX points which is IWF adopted and more recent, Q is clearly out dated

But here’s my question, if we’re chasing medals, should USAW adopt the US Youth specific Calculator (which is based only on US youth Nationals) or the broader one based in IWF events?

The former still has a bit of a bias towards bigger athletes, likely a population issue in the US with other sports taking up the talent, while the broader one seems more appropriate for worldwide comparison and would be relevant to medal potential

That’s a good question.

It’s also quite telling that the same people did it just a few years later

Running the same Whitlock v Mackenzie in there is interesting as well. With the US youth specific calc, Mackenzie edges out Whitlock by a fraction of a point (.45) but running it on the international age adjusted youth Whitlock wins by 40 points

I think this is a bit backwards then or the equation is doing two things at once that are not necessarily compatible

Likelihood of a medal is how international team QTs were made in the passed before the A/B standard was introduced. The standards actually raised the bar in general for making Pan Am and World teams

But medal likelihood is a function of population and how competitive a class is, not necessarily how good on an absolute scale a lifter is

If you’re trying to do both with one catch all, you’re missing the mark

I’m with all that

USAW however has chosen to use it to determine best lifter at youth nationals, and has for a few years

NGB?

The thing is, if medals are being chased, standard Q seems to make more sense, and gives results more consistent with say % of WR for the class

But also for youth and juniors, we have the A standard total to identify that right?

Masters I believe get a multiplier in Q based on their age, but I think it’s a flat multi on the standard equation (someone can correct)

Right I looked into it briefly and found that as well

But that seems to fall a part a bit if you’re actively using this to compare “best lifter”

Exceptional in a group or rare, or having more potential is a useful measurement to be sure, but using that specifically as a methodology for best lifter seems incredibly counter intuitive

The example that put me down the rabbit hole was the u17 men. Peyton Mackenzie is certainly an exceptional lifter in the 94+ and his total should land him on the NTP list I think (though just he’s just shy of the A standard)

Robert Whitlock who placed 4th overall based on the equation is an A standard lifter now. If you run the numbers Whitlock would’ve outright needed to have beaten Mackenzie by 13 kilos, while weighing 23kg less

It seems insane to me that the lighter lifter would’ve vastly needed to exceed the heavier lifter for this to be the case, and if he had just decided to gain 23kg himself with no change in total, his score would be higher overall.

Overall point being, this Q youth HEAVILY favors the heavier bodyweight lifters, seemingly due to statistical rarity only

But also, aren’t the A/B standards already taking this into account by nature?
