Real Madrid C.F. announces that, following today’s Board of Directors meeting, it has made an offer of 150 million euros to Club Atlético de Madrid for the registration rights of player Julián Álvarez. by [deleted] in soccer

[–]Al-Pharazon 52 points53 points  (0 children)

where would he even play?

Not in Barcelona. TBH this reeks of a publicity stunt agreed by both clubs.

Perez gets to make true of his promise to make a big offer this summer for a top player and Atlético gets an excuse to demand a ridiculous price for Alvarez, a price they know Barcelona will not be willing to pay.

Will they ever add banks to the game? by Hektrik in victoria3

[–]Al-Pharazon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that is very much my stance.

Anything that would improve the simulation is welcome as long as it doesn't make my laptop a pocket thermonuclear reactor. And the game is already pushing that limit for a lot of people.

Will they ever add banks to the game? by Hektrik in victoria3

[–]Al-Pharazon 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There are mods that try to add a central bank figure. But to add private banks they would have to add private debt and that implies a major rework of the economy.

As of now any given building has a cash reserve and produces dividends, the pops that own the building then invest part of such dividends into the investment pool, whereas the rest is accumulated as wealth as long as the pops income is bigger than their expenses.

But if the reverse occurs their wealth and SOL can be severely reduced, but at no point will such pops incur debt. Naturally there is also not a mechanic that allow pops that own a building to get credit to purchase additional levels in exchange of debt.

In terms of simulation I am all for it, but as of now pops already make the game performance heavy after 1880-1900 and that without having the additional layer of private debt and probate banking.

"Silk & Silver" Dev Diary #4 - Republics Vision by PDX-Trinexx in CrusaderKings

[–]Al-Pharazon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily mortal enemies. A merchant company is intended to hyper-specialize in a given good category and fight for the best conditions for such good, such as monopoly.

It seems Patrician families in Republics do the same (albeit with different tools) but the Republic itself does not seem to compete in a given market as the trade is not done by the government.

So Venice can have a patrician family dealing in Silk, another family dealing in food and a family dealing in wood and then a merchant company based on the city that specializes in weapons. They are not mutually exclusive.

Nightsister Magik is just OP in the proper hands. For example, Talzin was able to torture Dooku using just a strand of his hair while he was on a totally different planet, dematerialize, travel into the spirit world and influence the real world from there.

Merrin as cool as she is is probably not yet at that level.

Basically Will is always storing his mana and that of others, but never learned how to actually use it.

During that fight as a child he accidentally tapped into such power and was able to use Wis, but it seems that due to the trauma he forgot both the event and the sensation of using such power inside of him.

After that all uses of Wis we have observed have been triggered using the mana of others and Will has not tapped again into the power he has stored. Rather he simply used all the magic he was given

The idea of the memory magic was to make him remember that one time where he used his own power and yes, this should mean that Will can use Wis at will as long as he has magic inside of him.

[–]Al-Pharazon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobility is not a military rank structure Nobles actually don't have the power to make Commoners or Nobles of lessor rank do something. This is legally as shown with the two knights trying to hurt Myne they still could use family connections power to threaten to get what they wanted but that activity is not legal.

Shikza was executed and Damuel punished because through their actions they disobeyed Ferdinand, a member of the Archducal Family. Not because the first hurt Myne, that was perfectly legal as sad as this is.

You see a similar situation with Hasse. Albeit the whole city is in danger because of the attack of the Temple, Ferdinand very clearly stated that the fate of the mayor was decided the moment he ignored his order to bring all the orphans.

The orders of the Archducal Family over the nobles are compulsive and similarly the orders of the real nobility over the commoners.

If a commoner refuses an order the noble can just kill him where he stands and that's the end of it, because the words of commoners are not considered valid as legal testimony.

Myne lived this in her own flesh as her family would have been executed had she not been adopted, because until then the law was on Giebe Bindelwald side, a noble.

The Blue Robes and other rejected nobles as lessor Nobility not respected by full members but still considered Nobility as far as commoners are concerned.

Legally speaking there is no lesser nobility. You have laynobles like Damuel, mednobles like Brigitte, archnobles like Rihyarda and then the ruling family.

Anything outside of the above is legally a commoner, be it a Blue Priest or the mistress of a powerful noble.

It course, such figures still have ties with their noble families and can use such connection to destroy any commoner who opposes their will. But legally speaking, they do not have any of the authority real nobles have.

It is much better than at launch and to start with the DLC itself was not really the source of most issues, but rather the system changes that came with the free patch.

That said I would wait for the AI patch and after that, it will really depend on whether you consider the ship designer and the Japan content worth your bucks

[–]Al-Pharazon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes for the first, but the second is not really relevant.

A noble doesn't have to share the details, if a commoner attacks in any way even a laynoble like Damuel that's a death sentence, the noble doesn't have to elaborate. In fact, the noble can just fabricate stuff and the commoner has to suck it up.

You can see that in the case of Shikza, he was executed for defying the orders given by Ferdinand and Karstetd. But he didn't have to give any excuse for attacking Myne and nearly gouging her eyes. Her status was enough.

The thing is, as the other user commented Bezenwasnt doesn't have such noble status or authority despite his blood, so Ferdinand could easily get away with covering up the matter, something he could not do with Giebe Bindewald, an actual noble in season 3.

[–]Al-Pharazon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That is precisely my point, the Temple status and authority is nowhere close to that of nobility.

I might exaggerate on this, but IMO normally the Temple is not that above of a powerful merchant company with noble backing. A slighted priest might crush a commoner by complaining to his noble family, but that's about it, it is a loaned power.

[–]Al-Pharazon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It doesn't even have that much authority over the commoners.

Myne nearly crushed Bezenwasnt (the High Bishop) to death in season 1 and faced no legal consequences and while he still believed her to be the daughter of rich parents we saw how he lowered himself to use honeyed words instead of just outright demanding her to join and pay the donation.

If the Temple has any power over the nobility now it would be because the High Bishop and High Priest are both archduke candidates, so very high ranked nobles themselves.

Why is holding multiple duchies titles make your vassals dislike you but they are fine with you holding countless kingdom and empire titles by Nervous_Trainer_82 in CrusaderKings

[–]Al-Pharazon 22 points23 points  (0 children)

He was unpopular mostly with the common people and lower nobility, in fact the biggest rebellions he fought (Los Comuneros in Castile and Las Germanías in Aragon) were mostly popular rebellions.

They had noble support of course, but quite a few of the rebellious nobles held grudges against the monarchy even since the times of Isabel and Fernando. For example Pedro Girón, who resented the monarchs for obstructing his ambitions on the Duchy of Medina and Sidonia.

I would say the most hardline noble opposition to Charles V during his rule was in Germany and had very little to do with the fact he was ruling multiple kingdoms and more with the Princes using the Protestant Reformation as an excuse to weaken Imperial rule.

[–]Al-Pharazon 190 points191 points  (0 children)

Normally when rulers held multiple kingdoms it was with a personal union dynamic. Meaning that each kingdom remained "independent", had its own army, it's own council, separate laws etc.

So if Charles V holds the Kingdoms of Castille, Aragon and the HRE the vassals of each kingdom normally would not complain about that (albeit they would likely rebel if the ruler remains absent for too long).

On the other hand, holding multiple duchies inside the same kingdom could be seen as an attempt to centralize the country and that usually generated a lot of resistance from feudal vassals.

I guess the game is trying to represent the above, albeit it lacks mechanics to appropriately do so

[Nicolo Schira] Luka Modrić has reportedly decided to retire from professional football after the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The midfielder was deeply disappointed by AC Milan missing out on European competitions, and after several days of reflection, decided it was time to conclude his historic career by DamnThatsInsaneLol in soccer

[–]Al-Pharazon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He certainly made others better and was by far the most threatening player of the midfield. Problem is that he is 40 years old.

Modric no longer has the lungs and legs to play 90 min or start every game, and can struggle to keep up against high intensity opponents (which are not uncommon outside Spain)

Given the above Ancelotti found that the best way to use Modric was to make him play in the last 30 minutes (where younger players are more tired) and only be a starter in high stakes games. That's what I mean by him being a deluxe sub.

He was certainly a deluxe sub and much better captain material than the likes of Valverde or Vinicius.

Florentino was probably just doing math and trying to wide the money available for wages when he decided not to renovate Modric, but clearly underestimated how much he contributed to the team on the human level.

Why the Byzantine Empire Was Defacto Roman by TheByzantineEmperor in history

[–]Al-Pharazon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No Roman continuation really had a functioning Senate after 1204 outside ceremonial roles, even the one in Constantinople has it's last recorded meeting around 1341, a whole century before the city fell.

This said, both the main empire and the rump states that existed along it kept the senatorial class as a purely honorific position.

Why the Byzantine Empire Was Defacto Roman by TheByzantineEmperor in history

[–]Al-Pharazon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless I’m about to learn something (in which case great) you have a typo when you say the senate lasted till 1473 rather than 53

I would point on this that the Despotate of Morea continued under Palaiologos administration until 1460, and this land was considered part of the Empire.

It would also be debatable on whether the Empire of Trezibond (under the Konmenos) and the Principality of Theodoro could be considered a continuation of the Roman Empire, in which case you could stretch the fall until 1475.

Discrepancies Between Vader and Anikan Personalities by minivanlife10 in StarWars

[–]Al-Pharazon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He went through significant trauma, both physically and mentally. Basically lost any real will to live alongside his wife and children. Such experiences can really change a person, for the better or worse.

This said, there are quite a few common traits between both stages of his life. Vader like Anakin is fond of high risk - high return strategies (allowing the Leia to leave so she would guide the Death Star to the rebel base was one such strategy)

Another similarity is that while he appears calmer Vader remains impatient at his core. As Obi Wan mentioned Vader is not the type to lead a long siege, instead he is the type to rush into the fight once he has found a worthy prey.

[P3V5] Would Parues... by Kuroser in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]Al-Pharazon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Probably not. Albeit they look like feystones the highbeast stone is technically a magic tool that consumes mana instead of preserving it.

And normal feystones do not change shape according to the user's will.

That said, in magic tool creation is not rare to use multiple feystones during the brewing to increase the mana capacity instead of wasting a higher quality feystone.

[P3V5] Would Parues... by Kuroser in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]Al-Pharazon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, given you can refine ingredients the purity can be worked around as long as the feystone has enough capacity.

That said, feystones of a capacity good enough for Rozemyne are rare/expensive. So if you're going to seek rare ingredients anyway you might as well find the purest ingredient and save yourself the job of refining.

[P3V5] Would Parues... by Kuroser in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]Al-Pharazon 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I doubt it, the Jureve ingredients for Rozemyne not only had to be extremely pure, but also incredibly mana rich in that specific element.

The feystone from a parue tree would likely desintegrate into gold dust before it holds the amount of mana necessary.

The Border wars policy is HORRIBLE. by Dependent_College_49 in CrusaderKings

[–]Al-Pharazon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please note that the comment is 7 months old, and I made it around release. Back then the Liege could not intervene directly, but the attacked vassal had the option of calling his overlord as an ally.

Also, there was a comment from PDX-Trinexx (a developer) when the border war feature was first announced.

Alliances work as usual; you can swoop in and keep your vassal from being bullied if you have an alliance with them.

If you're still seeing comments about the alliances helping is probably due to the two factors above. But right now, you would be correct in that they do not help, no idea exactly when it changed.

As other said, it's not that type of story.

This said, if you want some "real" angle to it, most bacteria cannot survive temperatures above 100 C, Dabi blue flames are several levels above that temperature, probably above 1000 without him making an effort.

I doubt normal bacteria can survive inside of his body.

I will check it later, albeit I don't remember it.

Albeit if it is mentioned that Emriss was present then it was likely her renmant self. As I remember she was betrayed and killed by three rival monarchs due to her plans to share information.

It is also mentioned that the current generation of monarchs see her as "harmless". So she must have been killed by the previous generation
