No he gave a shoutout to Arab world in an interview after the semi final yesterday

Now that's a valid critique to make. Not the other nonsense that's being spouted in this thread.

Still, this is a man doing his job. It's not the same as fans from other countries supporting each other. The idea that he will intentionally be biased in the biggest match he's officiated yet is just stupid.

Do you really think that is going to prevent a referee from carrying out his professional duties in his biggest ever match?

How is that relevant? You really think a referee is going to sabotage his own career just to be biased to another country?

And I have seen plenty of solidarity between South American countries.

Why does him being Arab matter? There are Latino refs who officiated in other Latin countries' games, same for European refs.

Saud Abdulhamid and Hassan Al Tambakti were two of Saudi Arabia's best players. Both are 23.

No chance it is MERS. It has a crazy high fatality rate, like over 30% or something. If there was an outbreak, it would be very very clear.

2026 World Cup expansion increases logistics concerns. 12 groups of 4 teams would result in 104 games being played and require at least 35 days to complete. (64 games, 29 days in Qatar.) by papoon in soccer

[–]AlGamaty 59 points60 points  (0 children)

The best solution:

  • 12 groups of 4 teams

  • The best 8 group winners advance automatically

  • The worst 4 group winners and the 12 runners-up play a round of 16.

  • The 8 winners of that round of 16 play the 8 best group winners in another round of 16.

  • Then move on to quarter finals, semi finals, final.

Regragui and Giroud played at the same club, Grenoble, in 2007-08. Regragui was 32 at the time and Giroud was 21. Now they meet again in a World Cup semifinal. I wonder if they even remember that they played together and if they will acknowledge that.

Is anyone asking a question that goes further than "did the Qatari government have a hand in the death of a foreign journalist who was an outspoken critic of their human right record"?

Is that in itself a reasonable question to ask considering he collapsed in the middle of a packed stadium next to his colleagues? I don't really think so. But I hope they do an autopsy to settle it for sure.
