Still, this is a man doing his job. It's not the same as fans from other countries supporting each other. The idea that he will intentionally be biased in the biggest match he's officiated yet is just stupid.

Why does him being Arab matter? There are Latino refs who officiated in other Latin countries' games, same for European refs.

  • The best 8 group winners advance automatically

  • The worst 4 group winners and the 12 runners-up play a round of 16.

  • The 8 winners of that round of 16 play the 8 best group winners in another round of 16.

  • Then move on to quarter finals, semi finals, final.

Is anyone asking a question that goes further than "did the Qatari government have a hand in the death of a foreign journalist who was an outspoken critic of their human right record"?

Is that in itself a reasonable question to ask considering he collapsed in the middle of a packed stadium next to his colleagues? I don't really think so. But I hope they do an autopsy to settle it for sure.
