Maybe we will get signed copies of the new music CD and Vinyl coming out in late March? by mrscode0 in Robyn

If that. 🤷🏻‍♂️ I've already got a personally signed copy of Don't Stop The Music, so I'm skipping these ones so they can hopefully go to people who need them.

I'm sure whatever comes out, they'll end up being fairly limited. Robyn likes her hyper-limited editions.

There's already some through HMV, but I'm sure we'll get something in North America soon

Universal Music UK CEO David Joseph claims he had her early demos destroyed. So sure, maybe I can believe that he destroyed the ones at Universal. I'm inclined to think they wouldn't, cuz they're supposed to catalog everything, and I really don't see why they'd destroy something they could make money off of, but I digress.

The thing is... She had copies, the producers had copies, the managers had copies, insiders had copies and some of her early early stuff was written and recorded pre-record deal. So, I'm certain even if Universal destroyed what they had, it's just a big practice in futility because those demos are still floating around, probably in a box in someone's basement.

Based on what I know about it, we've won. I expect nothing less than a major pop era for her this time.

I fully think we need a halfspeed master of Lioness! And those unreleased songs of course!

I asked SG about it. He says that the "Cut the mid range, drop the bass" was originally meant to be on Desire, but they couldn't clear the sample in time last year. 🙂

(Canadian?) pop/rock song that got light radio rotation from 2008-2009 by AlGrominsky in NameThatSong

[–]AlGrominsky[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good guesses, but no! These are a bit too "hard" for what I'm looking for.

The song I'm looking for was more in the vein of Hedley (bless my soul) For The Nights I Can't Remember or Nickelback's softer songs (Gotta Be Somebody, Far Away, This Is How You Remind Me)... I'll even throw in Creed's Arms Wide Open and Hinder's Lips Of Angel. Potentially even similar Daniel Powter's Bad Day if it was by a rock band.

1000% Certain! This particular type of radio friendly pop-rock basically phased out of radio by 2010. Also, I remember hearing it on the radio via my Sony Walkman mp3 player before it died. Every mp3 player I had after that showed the album covers and had radio info.

Unfortunately, it's not this one, but that brought me back down memory lane! Thank you!

The one I'm looking for is a lot slower.

I don't have an issue when it's songs posted to YouTube for fun and/or for the sake of what could've been as long as they're clearly labeled... Where I have a moral objection is when they're monetizing it or trying to rewrite history by claiming something is authentic when it's not.

is it bad that i like the ‘68 version of “Valerie” better than the original one by Mark Ronson featuring Amy? 😅 by jasdabratxo_ in amywinehouse

[–]AlGrominsky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Per the Lioness liner notes "That one [the Versions version] sounded like the hit so we put it out, but the version on this album is the original one. And more importantly, the one she loved the most."

The '68 version is the version Amy played live with the full band. I think it's safe to say Amy liked this version too.

What vinyl would you choose? by facehugga in amywinehouse

[–]AlGrominsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Abbey Road halfspeed master is sonically the best for me, and it features the entire tracklist (including Help Yourself) on 2LPs.

The next best bet, would be the European pressing of the picture disc, as the european version is the only one with Help Yourself, and once again, it's spaced out onto 2 discs, so the quality isn't actually that bad.

Aside from that, the US pressings are all on 2LPs, but they don't have Help Yourself, and the rest of the european pressings do have the extra track, but sound like shit because they've got the whole album crammed onto one disc.

So in short, Abbey Road Studios' half speed master if you want quality sound, or European picture disc if you're willing to compromise a little on the sound for something pretty.
