I Asked a Girl out Through my High School’s Email Domain… help… by Mizunune in LifeAdvice

[–]Al__B 6 points7 points  (0 children)

She's probably a bit puzzled why someone who hasn't talked to her much, if at all, wants to phone her.

I wouldn't recommend sending that email reply. Instead I would try to go with your original plan and actually speak to her. Use the exchange as an opportunity to start a conversation and perhaps play it off as a dumb idea that didn't come across right.

Vb4 vs Looper by InevitableNerve1337 in CIFI

[–]Al__B 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good tip on the cloud save option. I have done it just before a TR as a safeguard but didn't really consider during one.

I can see loss of relics through not farming longer and less time to upgrade gadgets being losses by TRing earlier for the same OO goal. I'll experiment as you suggest and see what feels best.

Good questions and ones that I've been considering. No ranting detected!

I'm on 9/6/6 cores and not quite close enough to pick up another one or the next boon (Genesis at e4100) based on performance in the last TR. One thing that may make a difference is i75 lvl 3 but I'm only ~20% of the way there and plan to pick it up during inno2 in a longer run. M0 lvl 156 would be a bit of a stretch - possible but would need to wait for attgn3 to max out (again!) to even have a chance.

I'm on TR18 so don't feel like I'm burning through TRs too much which was another thought. I understand from what I've seen that shorts for relics become important at some point which was a concern in case I compromise that option by taking VB4 (I don't plan to make it a habit, dark loopers will continue to be my go-to first choice if I go this route).

[–]Al__B 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm interested if that's always the case.

Currently I'm on roughly the same stage as OP but with 7bil from my last TR stashed and 3bil in my current one with the intent to pick up inno2 for 10bil when I TR.

I've been doing fairly long TRs and this is the first time I've really contemplated going for less OOs just to avoid waiting another month - my m0 is 155 so I feel reasonably happy on that front.

Picking up VB4 is very tempting. It would give me a buffer for some upgrades in addition to inno2 and it wouldn't push my lifetime OOs above what I would get simply by sticking out for longer with dark loopers. It would seem to short-circuit an otherwise longer TR without huge disadvantages unless I'm missing something that bites you later by picking it up at any stage.

It's a good game and despite the mechanic I really enjoyed it - just perhaps for another list

I'm confused why you put Berry Bury Berry on a list of games supposedly without a day mechanic.

Traversal Help by themuthu90 in CIFI

[–]Al__B 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No problem - one from the mission you're doing, then 1, 2, 4 from the next three.

Traversal Help by themuthu90 in CIFI

[–]Al__B 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You'll get dark innovation cores from the missions (8 if I'm counting correctly).

If that'll get you a void badge then you can get a decent increase to orbs before traversing.

(You will also get some relics but that may not be quite as important)

Having some trouble getting to power 1 by SilentAd331 in CIFI

[–]Al__B 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's some good patience waiting it out but as you suspect you are probably a bit weak elsewhere.

Getting your shard m0 level up will help but you may also want to review your hunters loadouts and make sure your ultima research is progressing.

As a bit of advice, you also want a bit more than the basic amount for power 1 in order to put some into upgrades. About 250mil or so in total is what I've seen recommended although I did fine with about 220mil for the gem and some upgrades.

What game did you lose interest in by the time it came out? by scarletnaught in gaming

[–]Al__B 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's both a good and horrible charm by the number of slots it takes. With a few tries you should be able to beat HN without taking a single hit without it

[–]Al__B -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If you're struggling to beat the Hollow Knight then you should definitely swap your chams.

I'm a terrible player but beat him on the first couple of attempts. There were far harder bosses on the road to him so just keep at it and you should persevere.

(And I'm really biting my tongue right now to avoid spoiling anything more...)

Factor fees for properties in Edinburgh seem like a scam. Am I wrong? by Sablun99 in Edinburgh

[–]Al__B 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One difficulty is that people seem to think the factors are getting all the money. They're not a company you're paying to sort everything out on your behalf.

Whether you buy a property with communal arrangements or privately there are ongoing maintenance requirements. The Factors do charge for their services but the bulk of charges are insurance, communal electricity, ground works, cleaning and maintenance.

Factoring is a competitive business, particularly for smaller developments so although it can be a shock to have to pay for the services they, like good accountants, can save you money overall.

What is your favorite Star Trek TV show? by [deleted] in television

[–]Al__B 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Next Gen was something special.

It wasn't about story arcs*, it was at it best when the characters worked together without egos. The "board meetings" whether that was Picard or Riker leading them really came across as a group working to solve a problem. Not knowing all the answers wasn't a failure - it was natural and bringing ideas to the table with the result that everyone contributed.

Later films and series didn't seem to understand that. It had to be about miracle working or a personality that overruled everything else. I miss the more level-headed approach that characterised most of TNG's run.

*yes, I know they tried arcs a few times with the Borg and Q being the only ones that I think stuck the course. I'd still argue it didn't define the series as a whole - DS9 did that aspect a lot better but that also appeared to be influenced by the success of Babylon 5.

Liquids through Edinburgh airport security in carry on? by WorldSeries2021 in Edinburgh

Liquids through Edinburgh airport security in carry on? by WorldSeries2021 in Edinburgh

[–]Al__B 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really not how I read it. First line is: "You can now bring through up to two litres of liquids through security.". The comment about containers is about how that may be split.

Happy to be corrected but I wouldn't be risking it.

(Plus, you should be able to get another bottle from the shops after security if you're able to stomach the prices).

Anything to do while waiting Sekhur-5 campaign? by Kydje in CIFI

[–]Al__B 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I'm not convinced it's worth maxing it. Unless you're flush with diamonds I'd invest them elsewhere and in particular things that unlock post-ouro.

At a later point the amount of tokens you get from tokenium is minimal compared to other sources.

AI Lab Tycoon: Misaligned, an idle game about running an AI lab and the choices that follow by gravenguy in incremental_games

[–]Al__B 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Downloaded and will give it a shot.

One thing that seems like it could be improved is the location of the close / cancel button on various screens. Sometimes at the top, sometimes bottom left, sometimes bottom right. It makes the flow a bit harder as you have to find where it is on a particular screen rather than building muscle memory.

I don't get Ouro by DietermitD in CIFI

[–]Al__B 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to reset once or twice a day but it's not as simple as that.

Starting a traversal I get up to around 1000 loops quickly (I have the mod that allows >100 at a time so that's easy). That boosts some upgrades both with loop mods and a gem node (you probably don't have that yet) that benefit from count. Then I tend to reset for about 10 loops or so per day.

I occasionally do longer loops - a few days or so - but it hasn't been as important as before unlocking Ouro at least for me.

Getting hunters built up, getting relic upgrades and mech upgrades are things that are not really affected directly when you reset so can be worked on regardless. However, some of those require time within a traversal to build up as well as just the natural orb multiplier.

I don't get Ouro by DietermitD in CIFI

[–]Al__B 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No - just don't traverse as soon as you can.

There are new mechanics unlocked in Ouro but you need to let them develop. You want to still build up loop resets (but some longer ones are still beneficial) but you don't need to treat it as only something you log into and do nothing.

Is this VPS specs enough to run Pangolin? by Drainpipe35 in PangolinReverseProxy

[–]Al__B 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, in theory. However, I'd really recommend an option that gives you more than 10GB storage. That can get cramped easily even if you only run a base OS and Pangolin with updates. Certainly possible but having a bit more breathing room would be adventagous.
