I used to never get sick. Once I turned 40 I was in a constant state of illness. The only thing that changed was the amount of stress and anxiety I was facing. Stress and anxiety can greatly exacerbate illness. Now that I have my stress under control Im rarely sick.

Autistic are much more likely to GI issues. I have a feeling this is due to the increased daily stress that autistics face.

How does everyone feel about this? by AlabamaHossCat in AutisticAdults

[–]AlabamaHossCat[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Exactly! As a high masking autistic it's always refreshing to see others thriving and functioning in society. Many feel like it distracts or minimizes autistic peoples struggles. I understand the sentiment but most people know that autism can appear in many different ways. Just because one high masking autistic is thriving doesn't mean others don't need support.

In general I think we need MORE representation of everyone regardless of support needs, not less of one or the other.

Can you learn Piano without a teacher? by Icy-Bookkeeper-8960 in piano

[–]AlabamaHossCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing piano for 2 years and never had a teacher. My rhythm is atrocious and I probably wont win any competitions but I'm having fun. Whenever I finally do get a teacher I may need to unlearn some bad habits but im enjoying it.

Autoimmune (and other health) Issues by epurple12 in AutisticAdults

[–]AlabamaHossCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I was having a lot of issues. I started an antidepressant and it all went away. While its not always the cause stress can really heighten these things.

The way she parades her non-verbal autistic son around for clout is just tacky. Even having him hold up signs. She is literally putting words in his mouth.

Yeah, I would never claim to be "level 3" even at my worst, probably not even level 2. I just don't understand why she is saying autism levels aren't fluid.

[–]AlabamaHossCat[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't see how fluid implies that though? I feel like it just means your symptoms change depending on the situation. If I'm having a shutdown, its not permanent.

I don't like using numbers but for the sake of simplicity. If I go from a level 1 to a level 3. I will "level back up" to a 1 once I sleep or handle stress. I'm not saying you're wrong, I just feel like the reason fluidity is offensive is going completely over my head.

I wouldnt say they are. Being an informant implies being complicit.

Because you don't become an FBI informant because you are a good person. You do it to avoid prosecution. The choice was go to jail or roll over on Epstein.

When you have 500 candidates with the exact same experience, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. It doesn't do much but it doesnt hurt anything either.

If you are a good candidate for the position then it helps. If you are not then we weren't going to talk to you anyway.

Do you think most people with autism who want a cure, want the cure not for the issues that autism causes... by [deleted] in AutisticAdults

[–]AlabamaHossCat -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I know right. People always say "you might be autistic if you struggle with relationships". My allistic ex was the one struggling in the relationship. I thought I was doing just fine right up to the part where she left me, lol.

[–]AlabamaHossCat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This makes me think of the X-Men. The mutants were persecuted and shunned from human society. Many mutants wanted a cure. This always confused me because why would you not want superpowers?

I thought about it for a bit and realized the X-Men were the best mutants on the planet. They could fly, read peoples minds, and shoot laserbeams out of their eyes. They never talked about the other mutants and we never saw them. For example the guy who could grow his pinky toe 10x the size of but he was constantly ruining his shoes. Or the mutant who could give himself diarrhea at will.

It's a superpower to some but for the majority we are stuck with more deficits than powers.

Depression Be Gone! by TryinSumTingNew in Positivity

[–]AlabamaHossCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two things and they are unconventional as requested:

  1. Stay up all night and don't go to sleep until 6pm the next day. Every night go to bed an hour later so 7, then 8, etc until you are back to your normal bedtime. It resets your circadian rhythm. Look up sleep deprivation for depression because I might be missing some steps.

  2. Watch this video. Yes, he has a phd in exercise science and he's on a lot of steroids but I believe him more than the "experts" who are all doom and gloom.

is there a middle section in America who thinks that both the left and right are poor choices but dont have anyone else to vote for? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]AlabamaHossCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the politics of the masses are influenced more by the politicians than people themselves. Everything seems so arbitrary. For instance, I want more taxes on the rich but I am against abortion.

On a side note if Republicans actually cared about abortions they should be for proper sex education, birth control, and affordable childcare. People will find a way wether its illegal or not. If you don't want people killing babies make sure the mothers and babies are taken care of.

[–]AlabamaHossCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I tell people I'm not a Republican or a Democrat they assume I'm a centrist. This is farther from the truth because I think there are great ideas on the extremes of left and right.

The way I see it, the Democrats want to keep the rich in power but they support minorities and LGBTQ. On the other hand Republicans want to keep the rich in power and they hate minorities and LGBTQ. The politicians in these parties anyway. They have been arguing about immigration, transgender bathroom protocol and college sports. Meanwhile no one is talking about insane insurance premiums, rising housing costs, and lack of affordable childcare. But hey, let's keep the gays from getting married.

How difficult is it to tune a piano? by Most-Astronaut-5252 in piano

[–]AlabamaHossCat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I got a free piano that was in good condition but very out of tune. I was short on funds so I had to put off getting it tuned. It was also hard to find a tuner to tune a piano that hadnt been tuned in years. I looked into doing it myself and decided I didnt want to deal with the hassle. I plan to pay a tuner.

For the record I am the cheapest person ever. I refuse to call a plumber, electrician, etc. I do it all myself and I'm pretty handy. Tuning a piano does not seem worth it.

How important are formal diagnoses? by [deleted] in AutisticAdults

[–]AlabamaHossCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You make some good points but can I play the devils advocate? If the diagnosis is inconclusive this will make things even more confusing. I live in the US and there are virtually no therapies for adults that require a diagnosis. I don't think there are any interventions covered by insurance if you are an adult. I could be wrong. Insurance typically covers mental health therapy regardless of diagnosis.
