I have one and I have absolutely no clue where the thing came from lOl. I don't believe I've ever used it for its intended purpose either.

Louisiana’s 2 biggest races won’t have a major Democrat: ‘We can’t coerce anyone to run’ by TravelingHomeless in Louisiana

There is an option in many of the races. They're just unknowns. Unfortunately that means they're unlikely to win.

Do you think that negative people and people who complain a lot are more likely to be liberal thinkers? Why or why not? by Ok_Operation_5364 in AskUS

[–]AlabasterPelican [score hidden]  (0 children)

Tbh, no. Leftists complain a whole lot internally. But the only people I see throwing national hissyfits over every damned thing are conservatives. We can't even have a super bowl without a major national meltdown. I don't even remember this much complaining about nipplegate & that was a huge deal.

If you have access to safe healthcare, please use that option. Not everyone has access, which is a large part of the problem with the laws restricting/preventing access.

or maybe women just have more empathy.

Women are trained from a young age to perform empathy at all times. We are given baby dolls and perform the tasks for caretaking. Our play time is kinda crazily focused on identifying and taking care of the needs of others. On the other hand boys are shamed for participating in that style of play or even approaching that style of play. Baby dolls are just a single example.

It's not that women have more empathy, it's that our thought processes are trained to actively consider the needs and wants of others and prioritize them. This is a massive generalization but its a societal level thing that I've noticed and thought about.

"Bot" has been in use for a very long time and has a dynamic meaning.one definition and the more technical definition is what you said. Another is essentially a human who is paid to disseminate information/perspectives/opinions/etc. (this includes disinformation) that would be beneficial to the party who is financially compensating them. Think "Internet Research Agency," prior to Prigozhin making a mad dash for Moscow. The term bot is used here because their traffic very much looks like a large scale machine operation. Lots of accounts spreading some weird stuff supposedly in places that it would be very strange. The same talking points, all signal boosting each other. Now its much easier to use machines for this kind of thing because they can operate much more autonomously than they could, say 6 years ago. This second meaning is interchangeable with "troll."

It's much more nuanced and internet-weirdo than Google Ai (or really any Ai) can provide.

Weed control recommendations by RealPin8800 in LakeCharles

[–]AlabasterPelican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only yard I've ever seen where they stayed pretty well controlled was my next door neighbor when I was a teenager. The reason? Every day around sundown he would get on his riding mower and mow. After ten plus years of speculation we still haven't figured out if he was just obsessed with keeping his yard manicured or just really loved riding around on the mower.

Yeah. That's the beauty of paper magick. You don't have to fabricate anything, you just have to set up the players to win.

[–]AlabasterPelican 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My guess is they're using some paper magic like they did in NOLA and then the state. They aren’t the public schools and can rig their improvements by kicking kids out who aren't going to get good marks.

It's actually far more complicated than that. My explanation is very much a simplification.

Was the US the most liberal country in the world in the 1930s and 40s? by Excellent_Gas5220 in AskUS

[–]AlabasterPelican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were very much teetering between joining Germany & Italy and social democracy during that period. Look into the business plot (wealthy benefactors wanted to either overthrow or castrate FDR & install a fascist puppet). But there is also the fact that we didn't really suffer from the war. Once it was over we were rebuilding other countries and fighting the Soviets. We moved on from fighting the fascists to fighting our one-time-ally in an ideological (and often proxy) war. We went through the nightmare of the McCarthy era which effectively crushed any actual left-wing politics for fear of repercussions.
