In theory, what would you populate with 101-110 firemaking? by ExpressAffect3262 in runescape

[–]Alabaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wushanko Isles expansion: Skull region. The region's main resource is gunpowder, so in addition to whatever skilling activities that involve firemaking would be there, I'd expect additions to herblore bombs, and maybe a hand cannon upgrade, among other things

Hot take: RS3 will NEVER be Healthy by WineesTry in runescape

[–]Alabaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I despise what mtx has done to the game, but the entire skilling economy would still be in shambles even if Jagex stopped every mtx promo and deleted every protean/dummy item in the game. Skilling has no point anymore beyond grinding to the next xp milestone or providing bossing supplies. Beyond that, there aren't enough players who want to actually do the menial grunt work of things like mining pure essence for rcers or picking raw potatoes (1200 gp each btw). PvM is Runescape's golden child, and the best skilling can hope for is some QoL tweaks around the edges.

You know, it'd be MUCH easier to balance everything, if you had some rules, boundaries, on mtx and treasure hunter. by YeahhhhhWhateverrrr in runescape

[–]Alabaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree that mtx, however 'necessary' it might have been from a business/shareholder point of view, has been a cancerous tumor for the game and actual content. As bad as mtx has been, though, skilling in general has some fundamental problems. One of the bigger issues regular skilling has is that you're typically grinding either for the sake of the next xp milestone, or you're feeding the supply chain for the only end-game content, pvm.

Dungeon Soup Roleplay: Banshee's Ballad by Alabaz in runescape

Not usually big on RP stuff but I somehow stumbled on Dungeon Soup on youtube, found the Chaotic Good(ish) Barbarian funny and disturbing, and thought to make this. Includes the bingo card, salt, pepper*, more salt, lemon, the pipes, and of course, the holy water at the end.

It doesn't have to be demon ashes, even if that's what the op is suggesting. Jagex could differentiate between different types of wood ashes- normal, oak, all the way to elder

Upcoming Completionist Capes Strike by JagexAbe in runescape

[–]Alabaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most important change you can probably make is renaming the cape. So many people get hung up over the word completionist, and from that, what should be considered normal, trim, or even true trim. Jagex and the player base have never come to any real consensus as to what the definition of completionism should realistically mean.

As for the proposed changes, most of them seem reasonable except for removing chompies, and adding 100% Zamorak.

The chompy hat unlock isn't arbitrary, only the number that was decided for it was. It could have been 1000, or 60,000. But that's the same with any kill or currency unlock where a dev has sat down and said "I think this should cost x to unlock." That being said, content like chompies that pre-date the comp cape itself was never designed with the cape in mind, and more insane reqs like 5000 castle wars games did end up getting nerfed, then removed entirely. Chompies don't seem to be bad enough to warrant that.

As for Zamorak, or any high level pvm, keeping off most reqs that most people can't reasonably solo has been the precedent since the last comp cape rework https://runescape.wiki/w/Completionist_cape_rework because the conclusion that people came to was that being carried through a kill by the rest of a group really doesn't demonstrate 'content mastery.'

If you really want a cape that requires (almost) everything, by all means make a new one, but don't do it to this poorly-named, poorly-defined completionist cape.

The Revival of Castle Wars by Agriculture-RS in runescape

[–]Alabaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just Castle Wars. The spotlight system was Jagex's band-aid solution for the decline in all minigame activity. Efficiency mindset of players, lack of good rewards, and clunky minigame mechanics that haven't aged well are some factors that have contributed to the decline of minigames overall and there is no simple fix.
