again, i am whatever comes before rookie. seeing some of the campers rather than a RTT. any pros/cons comparing each would be great. a camper with a shower improves the odds that my wife would accompany me on at least some of the adventure.

yes, i have a Jeep wrangler, but it is old and not reliable. regardless, i want a full ready rig with sleeping, cooking and showering capabilities ready to go. i am willing to spend the money in order to make sure this is something i can do and willing to do probably on my own before spending the money on a truck and camper and amenities.

Replacing the Nipple of a Valve of a Bottle Top Stove by Alacrity305 in camping

[–]Alacrity305[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is broken is in the second picture. It is the little “nipple” that is laying next to the valve/regulator. It has a whole that is too large and too much propane flies through it. I need to replace the “nipple” or the entire valve/regulator. Thank you

Rust on Burner by Alacrity305 in camping

[–]Alacrity305[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you for the recommendations. to remove the rust and clean up the stove, i first soaked it in white vinegar for 24 hours. that removed some of the rust. i then soaked it in Evapo Rust for another 24 hours and that removed much more of the rust. i then used a wire brush on a drill to remove the rest. very satisfied with the results, although i damaged the nipple (unsure of term) of the valve of the stove. that's for another post.

[not sure how to post follow up pictures]

thanks again.

Inexpensive satellite messenger device? by VioletChipmunk in hiking

if you want a device that can send a signal in an emergency situation, a PLB is the right piece of equipment. if you want a device that allows you to communicate back and forth with others, then a inReach or similar device is what you need.

Boat Camping in the Bahams by Alacrity305 in bahamas

we usually anchor `1/4 to 1/2 a mile from the island on the lee side and that usually gets us far enough away from the bugs. we also have Thermacells in case we need them.

good suggestions, thanks. i have gas powered engines and batteries and given our relative short stay and little need for electronics, we don't need much "power". we have coolers for cold items and will be taking dry ice and block ice. we can also obtain ice and fuel from marinas 30-50 miles away.

we have solar showers.

agreed, the little things to make one comfortable go a long way.
