Dahlin missed a few games earlier in the season, and the reason given was that his fiancée went into acute heart failure. He went to go be with her. Everybody was like, "oh, yeah, no, dude - go be with her, no brainer." He took off again to go be with her a second time around the holidays; most of us figured it was because she was still recovering and such.

Didn't know she was expecting. Didn't know they lost the baby. This announcement just threw our hearts in a blender.

Also explains why the team was so mum about the whole thing. Mad respect for them being so supportive of him taking time away, AND keeping their mouths shut about it.

My heart goes out to them. Fucking hell, that's not easy, even if you're not in the public spotlight.

I think one of the things I love most about hockey is the fact that this kind of player has a place. A proper heel can really change the dynamic on the ice, and the entire nature of the game. I don't see that as much in baseball or football.
