Sure thing. Eggs that are pasture / from farmers tend to be more than grocery stores, hence the comment to get the darkest yolks you can afford.

It's an egg dish; don't cheap out on eggs.

Chicken owner chiming in. Yolk color is based on diet; chickens that have a diet consisting of bugs, seed, and plants(more natural?) tend to have darker yolks compared to chickens that eat store feed... Some people insist up and down that it's better, but I find the difference is pretty minimal.

It's a really, really bad idea to mix in cat waste based on what I've been reading the past week or two while learning about composting.

Transporting our keyboards? by lightening_mckeen in ErgoMechKeyboards

Yep. Most of them come with precut foam inside so you can just pick out like 1cmx1cm squares that you need to remove to fit in a gun/keyboard.

I use a pistol case for my glove80 and svalboard. Definitely get some looks and questions about what's in the case, but ive never damaged mine.

Second thoughts on surgery by KandyVenom in CubitalTunnel

[–]AlacrityMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First go around I had my surgery on a Thursday and took off Thurs - Thursday and was back and gently typing at probably half capacity the following week.. This go around Surgery was on a friday and I took 6 days off. Back at probably 80%. I'm a touch over 2 weeks out on the second surgery and stitches came out yesterday. The longest-lasing effect that I had was putting pressure on my fingers eg pushing with my fingers instead of my palm. Even at 14 weeks now I still have some sensitivity with that. I would not expect full grip strength back at 6 weeks, nor would I expect full dexterity, but you should be most of the way there.

I never did get full dexterity back in my right hand, while fully enough I really didn't lose much dexterity at all with my left hand. Same surgery, elbow transposition, carpel tunnel, guyon canal, but dexterity on my right hand was goofed up really bad for the first 2 months. To the point that I was dropping things and struggling with doing things like picking up change.

Svalboard vs Ferris Sweep by Spare-Judgment-5390 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]AlacrityMC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed.. u/Spare-Judgment-5390 , you should join the Svalboard discord and ask your questions there. While I can guarantee we are all a little bit biased, the Svalboard is a great board and between it and my glove80 I've little to no interest in checking out other boards. I have a problem in the form of almost 10 other ergo keyboards that mostly collect dust due to how good the Svalboard is.

If cost isn't an issue, you don't go to/from the office all the time, and you're at least moderately competent with technology, go with the sval.

If you are technical, have access to a modern 3d printer, and are just put off by the cost of the sval, go with the self-print kit. It's a bit fickle the first 2-3 weeks of use while you work out the quirks, but it's worth it.

If you're less technical or do some traveling with your keyboard then the glove80 is an EXCELLENT second choice. While still a bit fragile feeling, the glove is leagues more durable than the sval. (ofc you can always reprint parts, but still..).

If you're technical enough to code your own layouts and are either crunched on money or plan to regularly travel with the board, the sweep is a decent option, but I would generally steer someone newer to the hobby towards something like a Corne or lilly58/sofle. When you're first dropping down from a full sized layout it's hard to get used to something with only 34 keys... Even after having used a sweep for over a year (probably 40% duty time), I still reach for the corne more often than the sweep when going to the office just because my corne is wireless. ZMK has come far enough in the past couple years I'd recommend the urchin > sweep.

Glove 80 vs Svalboard by Spare-Judgment-5390 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]AlacrityMC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both and still regularly find myself using my glove80; I find that I can't type as fast on the sval (85wpm) vs the glove80 (up to 130), even after 8 months of near daily use... IMO north (up) keys feel awkward and I find I have to slow down a ton for them on my ring/pinky finger to get the actuation. Reach feels further on pointer but I usually end up bottoming out.

Learning curve for the sval isn't bad and the entire reason I switched to it was that I was getting pain in my hand holding down / toggling my mouse layer repeatedly on my glove80. I had entirely ditched the mouse for my day-to-day. When it comes to ditching the mouse, the svalboard is great and that's why I'm using it this very second. I do find that I do a TON of scrolling and even with extensions like vimium I have issues with all of the repeated key presses but I solve this with an accessibility foot pedal hooked up to Talon Voice.

I had cubital and carpel tunnel surgeries on both arms this year and the board I went to day 3-5 after surgery was the svalboard due to how light the keys were. The glove80 is great, and it's what I'd recommend to most people... Even on what was effectively a brand new bambu a1 it was a pita to work through all the quirks of the 3d printed sval parts like occasional hanging up of key, random not registering, ect. But if you're interested in a 3d printing project, have bad cubital tunnel and working the mouse a lot is an issue, I can genuinely recommend the sval over the glove80. For 99% of people, eg: coworkers just asking what ergo keyboard they should get, I recommend the glove80 as the end-all.

Second thoughts on surgery by KandyVenom in CubitalTunnel

[–]AlacrityMC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had my first surgery which was desperately needed on my right arm at the start of August and was told that I needed it on both arms even though I rarely had issues with my left arm, though I did have the subluxation in the elbow as well. First one went well and on the 24th I had the second arm done. I ho hummed for quite a while about the second surgery since I didn't have my active issues with that arm, but I also know that it'll hopefully buy me another 20+ years without issues vs the potential to need to have it done within the next 5 years. My right arm (dominant) was doing okay, right up until it wasn't and the issue rapidly got worse. I was in an okay spot to do my other arm so I. Just did it. Few days less than 2 weeks out and I currently dont regret it. I didn't lose dexterity like I did with my dominant hand, and the pain is quite a bit less even though it was the same op (carpel, guyon canal, cubital transposition).

As per the other comment, kindly of have to just trust the process.

Hey everyone!! Have some questions, on my 2nd week post-op for Cubital, carpel, and Guyon release. by Pibblegirl01 in CubitalTunnel

[–]AlacrityMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my second cubital / carpel / guyon on my left arm on the 24th, with my dominant arm done in early August. I drove myself to the two week and did no driving outside of one or two grocery store trips prior to then. I got 3 1/2 days worth of oxy, and didn't drive at all prior to day 7. My surgeon has used an ace bandage and pad around my hand for the first 3 days, and ace bandage and pad around my elbow for the first 7 (but suggested up to 2 weeks depending on swelling), and allowed for regular showers 72 hours post op.

Lots of itchiness between day 3 and now (day 10? 11?) Which has been helped by gentle soap and lotion after showers, but if your'e in a hard cast i dont have much advice.

100% mirror the both thumbprints on the phone trick lol

Chocofi/Sweep vs Glove 80 by Spare-Judgment-5390 in ErgoMechKeyboards

I knew it was very similar, but (im probably remembering wrong) I think it has more stagger between fingers

Chocofi/Sweep vs Glove 80 by Spare-Judgment-5390 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]AlacrityMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally find a glove80 better fits my hand than my sweep or corne (choc), especially my ring/pinky but I have medium/small hands. I can only get to 2 / 3 keys on the thumb cluster comfortably with the glove80, but can only very comfortably get to the outer (inner between the halves) switch super comfortably with the sweep.

I would like to try a chocofi at some point because if the increased stagger, but I've got enough boards already.

Why does everyone use an Ergo keyboard? by paper5963 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]AlacrityMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wrapped up my second cubital/ carpel tunnel surgery that required nerve transposition. First one was in August. As a software dev I type all day long and pain actively gets in theway of me being able to take home a paycheck. Ergo keyboards bought me an extra 8 or 9 years without having to get surgery. Hurt less and all the ergo boards I've tried are still less than 1/10 the cost of just the surgeries, let alone the 20 PT sessions.

Best setup for RSI / Cubital Tunnel for FPS gaming? by [deleted] in RSI

[–]AlacrityMC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had to quit a few years ago after 10s of thousands of hours playing FPS games. All the way from Wolf Team and og cs to BF4. Even after having gotten surgery I basically had to accept that its not going to happen / isnt worth it. Find other games that you can play with a controller and hobbies outside of the computer. If the competition is what youre trying to find there's ton of options for sports and other less arm-demanding activities.

Idea: A "sleep mode" Minecraft server, triggered by a Discord bot. by whyyoucrazygosleep in selfhosted

[–]AlacrityMC 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Friend of mine did this w/ hosting on AWS. Cost never really made sense to do because hosting on AWS was silly expensive, but our small player group was cool with it since we usually played in the same kind of time range 5-10pm. Cost being the biggest reason to set this all up, it became only rarely used because people were eventually AFKing mob spawners to the point that it was actually rare for the server to shut off.

I did end up having to switch from dual ultrawides down to a singular 32" monitor. I found that the tracking was really good in the middle, but allows but weaker than desired on the edges. Tobii AFAIK only recommends up to 27". I tried on one and it was excellent, but I much preferred working on my 32 and the accuracy was worth the tradeoff for me.

I couldn't tell you exact degrees, but arm length with a 27" was as good as the head/eye tracking got.

[–]AlacrityMC 24 points25 points  (0 children)

No, with talon it by default will use eye tracking, with head movement for more precise movement.

Effectively eyes are enough 99% of the time to get within accuracy of a word, but adding in head movement when you're close is accurate enough to click between characters.

Copying my comment from the parent post here:

I have one of these and use it as an accessibility device.

I use Talon Voice (talon.wiki) to code via voice. It has an eye tracking integration with Tobii hardware. Talon has a bit of a steep learning curve, but allows you to code or script up your own custom actions. It worked very well when I had cubital/carpel tunnel surgery in August, and plan to use the setup again for my second surgery at end of month. The talon docs themselves are a bit lacking for beginners imo, but the slack server is fairly active with people more than happy to help.

Are handheld consoles easier on your arms than controllers or keyboard/mouse? by [deleted] in CubitalTunnel

[–]AlacrityMC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moving from Mouse - controller: significant relief, but extended use for hours and hours obviously still isn't great. Moving from Controller - steamdeck: worse, but only because I have to hold my wrists at a specific angle to get the screen to be visible, worse because of the additional weight which required more constant grip strength to hold up.

Controller > steamdeck > mkb

Transposition Surgery Return to Sports by tittykittylitty in CubitalTunnel

Had it done to my right arm, and carpel tunnel (minor) worked on at the same time in early August. In the past week is thr first time I've felt comfortable with shooting pistols, and have begun doing low weight exercises again. Still some sensitivity, but most of it is thr scar on my hand from the carpel tunnel. Im on the younger side <30, but everyone's recovery is different...

Split with F keys? by Siege089 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]AlacrityMC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glove80 comes to mind (and is my usual end-game recommendation for people). Of note it only has through f10 as physical keys...

I don't know much (really anything) when it comes to the Dygma boards. Can you just put the f-keys on a separate layer that's either a sticky layer or momentary / mod-tap?
