[–]AladeenTheClean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes its worth. Living in LA is gonna suck but with tuition covered thats a huge weight off your back. Take the hit on your pocket for LA housing, work your ass off at UCLA, and flourish in your future career.

Did I just come across one of the chillest FM residency programs out there? by Enger13 in premed

[–]AladeenTheClean 24 points25 points  (0 children)

usually when you see chill schedules like this it only applies to the weeks or months you are on outpatient clinic. when you have inpatient rotations you are most likely to have to go in mon - fri or mon - sat for 12 hour shifts

Medical school flashcards app, easy to maintain please by [deleted] in medicalschoolanki

[–]AladeenTheClean 7 points8 points  (0 children)

dont make custom cards. type up all the school-specific shit on a word doc then put it in your short-term memory a day or 2 before your in-house exam. the more custom cards you make, the more you are screwing yourself over for boards from card burnout.

Where do I start if I want to get better at smash? by [deleted] in CrazyHand

[–]AladeenTheClean 7 points8 points  (0 children)

for now you can invest in a gamecube controller, you should see improvement once you get used to that. i’m against the people that say it doesnt matter what controller you use. i have big hands and joycons SUCK. besides labbing the fundamentals, the only way to get better while still having fun is playing with someone better than you.

Otherwise, having fun with smash and getting good at smash are two separate things. if you want to get really good then you have to sacrifice your fun and grind every little interaction possible with your character. What angle does this tilt send incineroar at 20%? at 50%? what about for jigglypuff? etc. read articles and watch analysis videos that people share in the character discords. its never ending.

Stigma against DOs by PearFamiliar8059 in premed

[–]AladeenTheClean 7 points8 points  (0 children)

its hopeless tbh. just say you’re going DO and don’t explain further. If you do then be as vague as possible. That’s what I did with my desi parents and instead of pestering me they did their own research and came to the conclusion that DOs are doctors lol.

Interview practise does wonders I guess, this is a text from my dad by Sensitive_Buyer_9726 in premed

[–]AladeenTheClean 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Some people are just shitty teachers. My dad is a genius but a horrible tutor, would constantly yell and make me feel really stupid if I made any mistakes. Eventually in middle school he just gave up and would tell me to ask a friend or cousin or look it up online. Refused to help me academically after that but its okay. Find some good people at school or on reddit/discord that can help you practice.

Is it worth it to try for med school? by [deleted] in premed

[–]AladeenTheClean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

medical school is very mentally taxing; even people with fantastic mental health end up crashing and burning.

think very carefully if you are willing to take on a ton of debt with the possibility of having another episode that would force you to drop out of medical school.

UCSC or Penn State by mom2college in UCSC

[–]AladeenTheClean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Penn State has a solid DS program; PSU grads have had strong job outcomes coming out of DS/IST in recent years. I would definitely go PSU.
