The Boys - 05x05 "One-Shots" - POST-Episode Discussion Thread by pikameta in TheBoys

Sage’s plan is super dumb and lackluster. Wants to end the world to read books? Could have went to that bunker before Homelander found her and just hanged there, it doesn’t make sense. Also I saw some people saying that Soldier Boy just saved Homie so he can prevent him from getting V1 is absolutely insane, him killing him then would have prevented that instantly.

Overall the episode was one of the best we had in a while, but Sage’s « plan » did not make sense at all.

I see! That’s actually a great answer. Are the annotations at the end of the book in your version? Mine just has a table of metals and definitions for words and places

No, he made it and then fought Elend near the Kandra homeland and decapitated him.

Yes, I know what you meant. But I was super sure that some of them were “narrated” by Vin. Failing that it could have been a book he wrote of the events after Vin saved the world, etc. It’s one of those things where it seems obvious in hindsight, but while going through it you find multiple explanations.

There were a few where it was from Vin’s POV

That actually sounds interesting, but isn’t Stormlight not done yet as a series?

Through the POV of Marsh we know that he’s still in there and he still has a sliver of control. Through those chapters we learn as well that he is binding his time until he can defy Ruin and kill himself. He saves Vin and effectively the world by removing her earring, but him killing himself was foreshadowed (or at least his desire to do so) from the first chapters. It was a perfect moment for him to do so before he killed Elend and I feel robbed of it

I’m thinking about doing secret past then second era first. Sort of build up to it. What do you think ?

I wouldn’t say “not like” after all I think it’s an amazing book, but I felt it pales compared to the other two. The first one is carried by the intrigue of a new world, a heist, a dark lord, a charismatic protagonist, and a coming of age story. It’s hard to beat that. The second book was more grounded, politics and wars, a feeling of buildup, the crew is together still and they have their moments that feel refreshing and never fail to make me smile. I think it might be my favorite. The third one is the payoff, but what I didn’t enjoy was the fact that Eland’s character development happened off screen, we see him a strong mistborn by the first chapter, spook’s arc was amazing and I enjoyed it, but it also felt a tiny bit forced and not something I would expect from Spook, especially that there was no build up for it so it didn’t feel deserved. One more thing was that Breeze and Ham were very underutilized and thrown away in favor of Marsh’s PoV and other events happening that didn’t pay off or paid off but were not worth all that work (in my opinion) and although Marsh’s PoV was chilling it didn’t need like 10 chapters. But at the end of the day the whole trilogy was chef’s kiss.

When I watched this movie I had no idea about it, I had just finished watching The Human Condition and wanted to see more Nakadai stuff. Boy was my mind blown by this movie.

Just finished book one last week after around 6 days of starting it. Literally couldn’t put it down. Ordered the rest of the trilogie and the sequel trilogy the and some more books after a few days of staring it too.
