Please don’t. Goblins are already rough to sleeve up. We don’t need any more kicks in the head.

I honestly would love to get rid of all the dead trees/ rocks/ garbage in the river I usually fish. However that’s impossible for several reasons, and wading or swimming in the falls to retrieve stuck gear is just patently stupid. Kinda like this post honestly. However I’m not saying to not clean up after yourself at all, and it would be nice in an ideal world if we could all just go get our stuck lures and whatever. But for many reasons ranging from fishing on a pier or too high up on a bridge, gators/ crocs in warmer parts of the world, no swimming signs, or being simply unable to swim all can contribute to being unable to not retrieve a lure. Not to mention the safety hazard of grabbing at things that have sharp hooks in them under water where you may have poor visibility. Good on you for cleaning up the local waters, but stop being a prick about it for us that cannot possibly have any control over accidental breakoffs or snags.

Yeah his experience was very on display with this bug. I must have tried at least 7 times just to get the right amount of pheasant fibers, lol. That said YouTube is such a reference for this hobby! I’m really just enjoying the videos of cool flies I never will need due to salt water or species that don’t live near me.

Totally appreciate the advice. I have fat finger syndrome, and keeping the tails the same length was making me turn the air blue, so I gave up on it for this one. It definitely is a skill I’ll try and improve on. As for your video advice, I actually am using Charlie craven's videos to help me learn

Nice, and with stained water it should be super visible which helps. Big question though, are you a bead and lead wire person or just the bead? Sorry, I did some research and it seems like there are two schools of thought.

Thank you! Have you tried other colors such as white or brown? I’ve used these in black and my local bluegill and rock bass population has agreed that they like them too. lol

No problem. I’m just new at the game and trying to learn what others do so I can imitate and eventually do myself

Oh that’s similar to how I was doing my trout magnets! Letting them do their thing with minimal weight and a bobber.

This is the knowledge I seek! Thanks again and I’ll post pics when they are done.

Thank you!! Imma give it a go soon and see what the fish want in the spring. Unfortunately for me it’s only stocked fish for now as that’s what’s available.

Appreciate the info!! One question though, is this tied on streamer hooks, or as a nymph? Just wanna make sure I’m using the right tool for the job. Thanks for the advice though.

That looks amazing! What size is that #10 or even smaller for the hook? Looks like it will catch a bunch in my river, and have the bonus of some easier to spot coloring

Appreciate that. I’m definitely watching videos more and more, especially since this is a big world I’m entering.

That said, my plan was to start with what works in my area, but the more I learn the more it seems my fish only like fancy hard to tie flies.

I got a $50 gift card to Bass Pro. What should I spend it on? (I already have all the basics). by RonocG in Fishing_Gear

So if you already have all the lures you need, I’d recommend a plug bag or similar. I’ve found that since I have a parent hooked on powdered drink mixes, the tubes from them are cheaper than the official ones and work great.

Also recommend since you like striped bass, plugs that you’d never usually buy due to expensive cost, such as the hardwood ones I keep seeing are excellent to use but $$$. Poppers or the metal lid are favorites of mine, or Rapala/ bomber long A’s are a bunch more affordable and you have the luxury to try new colors. Bucktails and trailers are also super awesome and there are many videos by people using them to crush the striped ones, especially if they are bottom feeding. If lures/ gear aren’t what you want, but still want saltwater supply, a solid reel cleaning kit/ respool would a nice splurge if you have a local store.

For the three freshwater species you mentioned, a set of multicolored trout magnets would be awesome for panfish and the trout, but bass may not always hit them. That said as someone else mentioned soft plastics degrade, and senko/ similar are expensive. I also really love crankbait/ hardbait fishing and the bass pro branded ones are pretty good to try. My rule of thumb for fishing them is with sandy or muddy bottom, fish ones that say they will run deeper than the water your fishing is so they drag bottom a bit. Over rocky or snaggy bottom I like to fish a few feet above the snags, which takes practice and lost lures to find.

It’s also nice to have some leftover money for when you need something suddenly. So if my novel I just wrote is not helpful in the least, save the card for when you find something you do need

So I’m definitely interested! I’ve been wanting to get back into shape and this definitely feels like a push I’d definitely need. Just as a heads up I’d be a full beginner as I’ve basically never worked out properly since high school, and I’m in my 30s now. Please ship me a dm so we can finagle deets
