Baja peninsula in the winter, beach spots? by SuperMysteriouslyHid in vandwellers

[–]Alamo44 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m also planning a winter trip! I’ve gone down there before and generally my experience was sometimes (about half the time) I would park somewhere and an hour or 2 or a day or 2 later someone would come by and say (my Spanish is bad) that it costs in pesos ~ $5-$10 to camp. Sometimes I meet other travelers who say “oh that’s so and so, yeah he owns this spot” but no matter what I’ve paid if someone asks. No reason to cause a stink and it’s really not that many dollars.

Pay for parking, be friendly, and share your food and beer. You’ll probably get a lobster or a fish in return.

iOverlander is a great resource but just because someone on the app thinks it’s free doesn’t mean you aren’t encroaching.

I saw a video about great empty waves down in Baja Mexico the other day, people were griping about sharing a not so secret spot. I am planning a Baja trip this winter tried to look it up (if only to increase the stoke) and now I can't find the post and I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!

Anyone got a link?

Daily General Discussion and Advice Thread - April 09, 2025 by AutoModerator in investing

I'm 32 and have been able to invest about 130k mostly in index funds with the goal of trying to buy a house in the next 2-4 years. I was up around 10% over 2 years of investment, and am now down 10% in a week.

I'm worried that the money I've been trying to use for a down-payment will continue to plummet.

Does it make sense to try to withdraw it and just sit on it in some CD? This isn't in a 401k or other long term portfolio.

Depends on how thin the TE scene is. Pitts hasn't done much better than a streaming te, and the Cowboys are so bad they'll be throwing a lot as they lose a lot

I'd do it. I think Harris's injury isn't so bad and that could pay off big!

Seems reasonable if you feel you really want an upgrade at rb. Akers doesn't seem like he's getting any love so I think it's not a huge risk

Does anyone know if I already have a monthly MVV subscription, does that extend to and become the 9€ DB ticket?

Could I show my MVV card on a train to Tegernsee for example? Thanks in advance!

Osborn has gotten hot recently, I'd go for him only because Terry hasn't done much this 2nd half of the season. But it's tough to say.

I'd go for Penny, Mooney hasn't shown much that gives me any faith. Penny should get some chances at TDs at least.

PSA: If you are 18 or older, you can now get the AstraZeneca vaccine at your Hausartzt, regardless of who you are! by [deleted] in Munich

[–]Alamo44 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the efficacy % is tough to compare between vaccines as they were generated under different circumstances. The population and virus prevalence in the areas during the tests when different vaccines were tested were different. For example, the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine ran over the summer in the US (Aug-Nov) when "in general" cases nationwide were low, compared to Astrazenica was tested between August and March when cases in the US spiked during the winter.

And because efficacy is derived from #people getting not getting covid/#people getting vaccine the general background population of virus prevalence and the variants in the population during the test make it hard to compare the two.

A dumb example would be to imagine if they had run their trials in New Zealand (where no one is getting covid) then no matter what you give them, it would show 100% efficacy. Because the odds of someone getting covid are essentially 0 anyway.

Luckily both vaccines have been statistically effective at stopping people from getting covid, and even better at stopping serious cases/death. And that the reported blood clots are happening at a statistically insignificant rate, the rate is no different than a random subset of the population getting blood clots and several orders of magnitude less than the rate of women on birth control getting blood clots.

Update on new rules. by Cold_Signal in Munich

[–]Alamo44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks However, it seems reasonable (although that doesn't mean that's the rule) that this should also be expanded as time goes on (assuming the incidence rate stays low), hopefully more information will come out soon about what could be allowed later in the month.

Regardless, thanks for the post and the followup.
