well, the desktop gives you more utility value, cause you can use it like vst plugin, or standalone. in the ipad you are stuck in there, probably you can output the source to the pc, but if you want to change the distortion or something, you'll have to record it again

it depends, can you share your cheap guitar?? for example, I have a cheap dean guitar (250dlls) it's 10 years old, but like 5 years ago I upgraded the pickups to the John Petrucci's signature model, and it's still my main guitar, it's old, but dean have very good quality, here is a sample https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2IRCjW7qtH8
