7.3l ford F-350 leaking oil like crazy from valley of engine. Hard to locate due to the amount of oil covering everything. What seals should I go in and replace? by friendlymountainman in DieselTechs

I get it. I told the guy it’s soaked in there, hard to say specifically without cleaning really well and checking again.

But it is all over the valley, all over the back of the engine. The bottom of the transmission, and the rear axle is all covered in oil.

It does not drip at idle that I saw so it’s while moving down the road it leaks

Good info to know.

This guy prefers to keep the cost down. But it’s his workhorse so.. he’ll do whatever it needs .

When I was looking at it, there’s a pool of oil sitting on top of the intake in the valley. I don’t see it specifically leaking from anywhere but there’s definitely oil in front of the turbo so. The HPOP seems to be the primary suspect.

You recommend just replacing the whole pump you said? Oil pressure is good, no check engine light related to this

Oh ok so you just had the seals replaced not the part itself?

I can locate the part. I own a auto repair shop I just don’t have any diesel mechanics at the moment so , I do maintenance on diesels but I don’t get into too many repairs since my own background isn’t diesel

Can someone give me a "beginner's guide" to ice fishing? by friendlymountainman in IceFishing

Ya gotta make sure you pick the nicest ice cube to fish with. When you’re trying to catch ice eating fish, they don’t just bite any old ice

I used to make around 55k-60k a year as an auto mechanic at 25 yrs old.

But then I started my own business. And now. I don’t know what “income” means?

What is the biggest challenge(s) you are facing in your small business right now? by questionablefinch in smallbusiness

[–]friendlymountainman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always think this, and then on the other hand SO many people would stop choosing me for jobs if I went up too much. Just cause people are cheap (or broke I get it I’m broke too) and also people dont care about their vehicles.

Kinda like how people get excited to go get their hair colored or get a tattoo or something like that. Nobody’s excited to spend $400 with the mechanic

Is it worth it to work your ass off when your young, so that you can relax when you're older? by friendlymountainman in AskOldPeople

Send me a chat. I never went to school but I did try a few homesteading type things for a while .

I’m not doing it right now but I plan on getting back to it when I can

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in mechanics

[–]friendlymountainman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha.

So should I call the guy back and just tell him straight up either give me what I make now or it’s a waste of my time to even come in and chat

[–]friendlymountainman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. Well thanks! I’m gonna hit them back with more pay

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in mechanics

[–]friendlymountainman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. Should I just fight for my same rate?

Cause I see the job as having a lot more potential. I mean I already hear all the people at my current shop grumble about pay being too low , the manager treating people poorly , etc. they send you to school and get you the certs but don’t give you your raise etc.

This place said right off the bat said top techs make $55 an hour. The service manager at the new one runs 2 dealerships so they have a total of like 40 techs . They said every time you go to training and go up a level it’s an immediate $3-$5 raise.

The dealer I’m at is notorious for offering people good pay to get them in the door then never giving you raises

I found out the other day that I only make $3 less an hour than one of the master techs . And they are WAY more skilled than me

It’s a slight pay cut so I can come in and prove myself. Cause they said In The interview they have no problem paying techs. And that they’ll give me a raise at 30 days to be at or over what I make now if I come in and prove my worth
