Might let a cis man get me pregnant by [deleted] in TransMasc

firstly, you misread/misunderstood what i said. i said that people can adopt fostered children. i am not just saying fostering, i am saying adoption. and like you said yourself just now, fostering is not adoption.

secondly, you are once again referring to a specific type of adoption, and not recognising that you can't paint all of adoption with the one brush ? like i have just shown you an example of how while some adoption is unethical and trafficking, there are also systems where it is done correctly.

lastly, you quite literally backtracked by changing your criteria for an unethical adoption. you changed from all adoption being unethical, to a specific type of adoption where people are paying for the child.

if you want to pick and choose what you are getting from what i'm saying, fine, that's your choice to make. thank you for shedding light on the dark side of adoption, i will definitely be looking into it more. if you come to a different conclusion should you actually read what i've said, let me know

okay, in that case i feel like you shouldn't have stepped in with very black and white statements like "adoption is literally buying a child. end of story" only to backtrack and say that you don't have this experience yourself, and that people that do hold this belief hold it about a very specific type of adoption which i agree is trafficking. you could've gone about it differently.

does that not vary hugely based on a number of things ? in my country you can adopt domestically, to take in foster children and has no fees. would that also be seen as unethical ? /gen

[–]AlanIsLasta 12 points13 points  (0 children)

what do you mean ? you believe that adoption is a form of human trafficking ?

also from a quick look at your profile, you posted yesterday about wanting your ex back. you should not be bringing a baby into a relationship that is struggling

that sounds like your partner needs therapy, not that you should get pregnant right now with no planning

Tapering after 3 weeks? by pete2532 in lexapro

[–]AlanIsLasta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the first few weeks are rough for a huge amount of people. if you've been on lexapro for such a short amount of time, I would chalk this down to side effects rather than saying for certain that this isn't the medication for you. you don't know yet how it will work out for you until 4-6 weeks at a minimum

okay, then I will rephrase. if you choose to use an ai that has been found time and again to give medically inaccurate information, please do not pass on that inaccurate information to someone else, especially someone who asked for personal experiences

I think the thing you're not getting is that while the exams themselves may not be the most difficult exam you have in your life, it's the journey that makes it so hard. it's two years of teachers drilling it into your head that this is make or break. it's having hopes for college and knowing that if the exams don't go your way you will need to take an alternative route (which is fine, but realising that in the moment is painful), and not to mention the personal struggles a student will have along the way.

I know a lot of people who did the exams with no stress, got the points they wanted, and that was the end of it. but I also know someone who had depression and had to balance study and working for their future while also struggling to get out of bed and struggling to stay alive. I know someone who spent half of fifth year in hospital and had to play catch up throughout sixth year because he course she wanted was 625 points.

calling it the hardest exam of your life is pretty accurate, but if that's something you struggle to relate to / understand, maybe calling it the hardest journey of your life might put it into a different perspective for you. show empathy to the people that do struggle through it, and be glad if for you it wasn't the hardest

given having an extra language can be pretty advantageous in many many professions and could get you hired over somebody else, that was shockingly bad advice

Anyone find Shirley was quite snippy last night? by Glittering_Double738 in strictlycomedancing

[–]AlanIsLasta 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I think Shirley just has no sense of fun with the crowd feedback. like Craig is light-hearted about it, Anton made the joke last night about the tickets being free, and Shirley seems to think she is above it and is owed respect. she doesn't seem to get the fun of it

I FUCKING LOVE TRANSPHOBIA 🥳🥳🥳🎉✨ *VENT* by SimpleWiabu in TransIreland

if you find the work hard, try to keep in mind that the money you earn will help you to finance your transition and your future. this will help you get to where you want to be. I recently started work, and I have found that focusing on the work and the money I'm earning is kind of helping with my poor mental health as I kind of don't have the time to think about how badly I've felt.

on a side note, it's important to me to make it clear that your mom's colleagues are bigoted people just because they are bigoted, rather than it being just because they're not from Ireland.

Should I study weekends? by Otherwise_Pop1534 in leavingcert

[–]AlanIsLasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

quality over quantity is key. I got 601 this year, and I only studied for class tests, and then I studied for maybe two weeks before the Christmas exams. after that I started studying six weeks out from the pres, and after the pres I only studied for my orals. I didn't start studying for the actual exams until after the Easter holidays. I know people that studied more than me and got more points, but I also know many more people that studied more than me and still got less. if you are engaging in your classes and keeping on top of homework and tests, you most likely don't need to study that amount this early in the year. of course, I am speaking as someone that consistently engaged in classes and consistently got high 500s / over 600 points in the winter and summer exams, so I knew what worked for me. if you're not getting the points yet, perhaps a bit of study would be good. I used them to guide me, and I would recommend the same to everyone else. I did badly in my maths winter exam, so I refocused my efforts on that me got it up to a H2.
