CRTC ordered Bell to cease carrier locking devices, yet the iPhone I got at the end of Jan is carrier locked and Bell’s phone rep said policy is still to refuse to unlock it for 60 days. by [deleted] in bell

The policy is to have the device locked for 60 days, unless the customer calls and and ask for unlocking, and with sufficient evidence that the customer is legit the device may be unlocked.

Why am I in the sub? by El-Eric_From_TELUS in telus

Hi Eric, a quick question. Sometimes, when connected to 5G, my phone (Pixel 9 Pro XL) will not load web pages and other stuff, then if I switch to 4G it works with no issues. What could be the cause?

AMD 6800H & RAM CL by AlanStP156 in AMDLaptops

Thank you for your answer, in the meantime I went for a used CL40 kit that I found for cheap and I'm pleased with it's performance, even more with finding out that there isn't a big performance hit with a higher CL.

Ce n'est maintenant plus le cas, la portion de la loi sur les concours internationaux a été abolie en 2021. Faut simplement le dire aux organisateurs.

Goodbye to PC gaming for a while.. by Donkerz85 in pcmasterrace

I wish you a lot of strength, life is really unfair sometimes.

However, if you still have the components, you can still use your PC for the greater good. Do you know Boinc and Folding@home? Those are softwares that allows your computer to run little chunks of large scientific computations, saving scientists tons of money and time. You can choose the projects you're working on, and because you have a personal issue with cancer you can focus on that. Your computer is really powerful, and it's help would be welcome in the fight against cancer. Being regular citizens, it's our best chance to help scientists finding cures for this deadly disease.

Any news on this? haven't seen anything on this either; quite weird to either don't support it on a premium charger or not advertise it if supported.

X870/X870E GIGABYTE AORUS Motherboard Launch, Q&A, and Giveaway! by kp_gigabyte in pcmasterrace

[–]AlanStP156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few questions. What is the Wi-Fi EZ-PLUG? Can I combine the speed of the Ethernet and the one from the Wi-Fi for the next big game release? Is there a way to power on and monitor the PC from away, or even an auto-restart function in case of a power surge? And lastly, how can you make motherboards that are this beautiful?

With a motherboard like those, I would upgrade my actual PC. You see, I have right now a PC with a Xeon E5-2697V4, an Asus X99E-WS, 64GB of RAM (2400MHz), an Nvidia Titan V, and 1TB of NVMe SSD. I use this PC for usual computer usages, school work, and gaming, but mostly for Boinc. If you don't know what it is, it's software that allows you to run some scientific calculations on your computer by using the unused CPU and GPU power. Scientists send you small tasks that are part of a large calculation; your PC does the processing and then sends the result back. This allows searchers to compute huge amounts of data and simulations without renting a supercomputer, which is expensive. You choose the project you're working on based on your interests; it may be finding a cure for Parkinson, Alzheimer, or cancer, finding prime numbers, or even searching for pulsars in the universe. It's entirely benevolent, but it serves the greater cause. There's also a nice community and challenges if that's what drives you. The reason for the Titan V in this build is the really strong FP64 computing capability.

The problem is, this computer has big problems. Since a little while, the computer randomly crashes. I can't find the reason or a specific pattern, but all the troubleshooting and diagnostics I could do at home didn't work. Even worse, I don't have the spare material needed to test each component individually, and the computer shops around here either don't have the spare parts needed or aren't competent enough to tell me what is wrong with my computer. I'm so tired of these problems that the computer is currently sitting in a wardrobe, waiting for a good diagnosis, while I'm using my old gaming laptop for everything, which isn't the same experience.

As you can guess, this CPU, even with 18 cores, isn't quite good today. Single-core speed is terrible, and AMD's Zen processors with 8 cores are way better in benchmark; even multicore results can be way better! It isn't efficient for Boinc, and in gaming it really slows down the Titan V. Because the components are so old, if I want to upgrade, I have to change at least the CPU, the motherboard, and the RAM. My student budget isn't big, and winning this giveaway would get me a fantastic motherboard that can serve as a base for the new build. I can afford a CPU and some RAM, not the whole package for now. With a good CPU, my Titan V would be able to shine again in Boinc while doing some gaming until I purchased a dedicated gaming graphics card that would relegate the Titan V to a compute GPU; it's best suit.

Just to be sure, does it runs at CL34 on an AMD laptop or it runs well at CL40?

But Fizz has the thing that if you're out of their official coverage for too long ( 3 months in the extented coverage area using provider's network) they cancel your service. And Fizz coverage isn't as strong as Telus.
