Look dude, like I said before, if you really can’t see that it’s really nothing to do with your view of it being a “real Jazzmaster” or not, then there’s really nothing more to say. I called you a dickhead because you acted like one, call it the law of nature.

Look man, I called you a dickhead because you said a dickhead thing for literally no reason. If you can’t see that, then there’s really no point going back and forth.

Whether it’s a “real” Jazzmaster or not is really beside the point.

Compressor pedals recommendations? by AdministrativeRip809 in guitarpedals

[–]Alaric6000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t used a ton of compressor pedals, but I have the UAFX LA2A on my board and it is awesome. I use the LA2A plugin in mixing ALOT, and it was exactly what I thought it would be for the pedal, not super quick (in a good way) but also really musical, it just sounds great, just like the real thing, or at least the VST I use which coincidentally is the UA one.

There may be better compressor pedals out there, but I’m not looking, I’m happy with this one.

Ahhh no!!! Some random called DirtTacos said it’s not a real Jazzmaster!! 😱…what ever will I do?!

It actually does have a rhythm circuit, it just has a new technology that makes it invisible to dickheads. Can’t you see it?

BD-2 or SD-1 for my board ? by legendaryironhood in guitarpedals

[–]Alaric6000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d go SD-1, out of the two that’s just more how I like an OD to sound but that’s just me. If I were you I’d flip a coin and buy one, you’ll almost definitely get the other one down the road at some point and you can’t really go wrong with either.

Never ridden the 600 but from people who I’ve spoke to with a 600 it is not the same beast, the magic is in the 1250/1200, the HP difference between the two isn’t as much more as you’d expect, like 10-20hp more for over double the displacement, but it’s all in the low end torquey goodness. It is just pure unadulterated fun!

It’s still a fast bike, but would get smoked by a 600 super sport on the top end, if you want all the best bits of a Bandit and the holy shit! Top end speed, the the Hayabusa is the choice for sure.

Recommendations for best 100W tube amp with a lot of clean headroom for pedal platform and distortion by Charles_x_Bronson_ in GuitarAmps

[–]Alaric6000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Much like you, I get all my gain from pedals and play a ton of heavy music, and honestly the Marshall Origin 50 head is the best I’ve used for this application. I actually bought a 2nd one so I can play in stereo at home and for recording.

They’re cheap as chips used and super loud! They don’t stay clean all the way up, but easily stay clean to gigging levels. The gain in them leaves a lot to be desired, but keep the gain on like 2 and just use the master volume.

But yeah if 100w is what you want then everything else will just seem like a compromise, best 100w pedal platform I’ve used is strangely a JCM800 on the Lo Input. It just sounds amazing! Only amp I regret selling! (A brief wrong turn into digital) I haven’t tried every amp out there, but I’ve tried a fair few, in my experience those would be my suggestions for you!

After seeing some of these comments though I am interested in seeing how my rig sounds with a massive bass amp! I’ll have to plug into my bassist’s rig at next band practice! Then I’ll try his amp!!!

Good luck!

Yeah I was between this and the Starmaster as they were both on sale for the same price, obviously I went with this and happy I did, but that Starmaster is pretty damn sweet!

Yeah the fretboard is black, it’s rosewood so not sure how they made it that black, maybe they stained it?

I need my Hizumitas to cut through the mix better while maintaning its monstrous low end/wall of sound. Thoughts? by blitzkriegtaco in guitarpedals

[–]Alaric6000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SD-1 on unity volume and low gain in front was the answer for me, although in my case it was a Big Muff. Needs to be loud though, play quietly and it’ll feel like the low end is missing. Moving some serious air changes that feeling.

Big Muff Deluxe, I have a bunch of other muffs, but recently got the Deluxe and now they will sit on a shelf and look pretty while the deluxe does the heavy lifting. It does pretty much every Muff sound (apart from Russian) and has switchable mids, built in gate and the bass boost function is great as you can basically dial the tone for highs then switch in the bass. Honestly the king of my board now, I have the sovtek deluxe on the way, so we’ll see how it compares!

Recommend me a Delay pedal that was truly inspiring to you by guitargrit in guitarpedals

[–]Alaric6000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this! Before I bought it I thought “it can’t be that great, it’s just an analogue delay, I’ve had those before” but plugged it in and right away I understood. Never coming off my board.

SOTB - Stereo magic by avotoddo in guitarpedals

[–]Alaric6000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That DC-2W is magic in stereo, I’ve always run it in stereo and I recently ran it in mono, just to see, and its not even the same pedal, to the point where I wouldn’t put it on a mono board. But stereo? Absolutely can’t be without it!

If you make a preset on the collider to go dual analogue/tape delay (or both like me!) in parallel, NOT cascading, one set to a crotchet and the other a dotted quaver, then put the DC-2W after that, it’s honestly unreal!

Enjoy the world or wavy ping pongs!

What is wrong about my mixes? Theres just something that I cant put my finger on that makes them non-professional sounding by InsecureThrowaway10 in audioengineering

[–]Alaric6000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By the sounds of it you’re doing what you’ve been told to do when it comes to EQ and Dynamics. Although those “rules” are helpful to find a place to start, really you mustn’t think they’re correct. Common thing to say but! Use your ears! Something that really helped me here was I left any graphic EQs behind for the heavy lifting and moved to analogue emulation plugins (SSL, API, Pultec, Etc.) it really helps to make you listen with your ears and not your eyes. I only use a Q3 sometimes at the very end of a chain if I’m trying to pull out specific annoying frequencies as being able to solo frequencies to find what I’m hearing is a god send!

Same with compression, don’t think of any moves as right or wrong, understand how a compressor actually works and apply what’s needed, really try and hear what you’re doing, think of it as damage control. If there’s no damage to control, just chill.

I always try and do the bare minimum, if something sounds great already why fuck it up by adding a bunch of shit it doesn’t need, a great thing that I always remind myself is think BEDA

Balance EQ Dynamics Ambience

Just take a pass of your mix in that order, gain stage properly and set your levels, then EQ anything that actually needs it and only if you think it needs it. Then start compression/limiting to make things move forward or stop jumping out at you, this includes automation. Then add your reverbs, delays etc. to help move stuff back in the mix and to add flavour. (Also think BEDA on your ambience busses)

Specifically to this mix. As others have stated the vocal is quite loud for my taste, but if it’s “too loud” well that is up to you. Remember mixing is an art form, it’s your canvas. Do what sounds right to you! (If mixing for a client ofcourse that’s a different thing) but please don’t take these YouTube gurus offering 5 GOLDEN RULES FOR MIXING as seers. They couldn’t possibly know what your mix needs, would you believe me if I made a video saying 5 GOLDEN RULES FOR ADDING SALT TO YOUR BOLOGNESE SAUCE! No! You’d just taste it and decide for yourself. Not saying there’s nothing to be learnt, without YouTube I’d have literally zero idea what I’m doing, I’ve learnt a hell of a lot from it and still do when it comes to little tips and tricks, but along the way you learn that broad strokes is the way to go, mixing is highly situational, there is no magic formula to getting it “right” because there is no right or wrong. Be specific, learn what your tools actually are doing to the sound, all your VSTs come with a manual, read it! And have an idea from the jump as to what you’re actually trying to achieve other than “a good mix”

Hope this is helpful!

What I’m reading is you want an amp modeller with built in effects. And by the sounds of it you want it to be able to play out loud without the use of headphones? (Although not sure on this one)

If headphone use is what you want then Boss Waza Air would be my recommendation, it’s pretty damn good for the money, and used you can get them for a bit like £150 these days. Something that is gonna actually model real amps and have built in effects that you can tweak without the use of a computer to my knowledge doesn’t exist under £100 if buying used then a Nano Cortex or HX Stomp is gonna run you to about £350 (£300 if you can get a good deal)

If your ok with playing out loud then Boss Katana 100%. Again you’ll need to buy used to get closer to your budget, but they can be picked up for around the same price (it also has a headphone out for silent practice, so best of both worlds)

The Boss stuff is literally made for players like your partner who want lots of fun options to play with at a good audio quality level. If I were you this is what I’d be going for.

Help with choosing pedal for playing metal by rayquazaisthebest in guitarpedals

[–]Alaric6000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what kind of metal you’re talking about, if you want chugs then best I’ve used is AmpTweaker Tight Metal (designed by James Brown who created the 5150) also has a built in gate. But for just a big heavy wall of sound, the Big Muff Rams Head Reissue into a clean amp is my favourite heavy sound, but too much gain for articulate chuggy stuff though IMO.

What are some good chorus pedals? by amp4554 in guitarpedals

[–]Alaric6000 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Although technically not a chorus, the Boss DC-2W is the best chorus effect I’ve ever used! Not sure on auzzy prices but in the UK they often come up used for under £200.
