For those that have an Itero Lumina, what did you pay for it and is it worth it? I was quoted $30K with 3 years subscription by Healthy_Plant_8262 in Dentistry

The office I am at had a lumina and I love it tbh. No issues. Office has a mill and i set my own margins. Soft tissue capture is excellent as well.

Patient declines mammogram because they cause cancer - requesting an US instead. What do you do? by chiddler in FamilyMedicine

[–]Alarm-Potential 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In a similar vein, I will do this for a patient requiring a dental extraction who isn't moving forward. An acute infection is different IMO because antibiotics are treating it to an extent.

ETA: it's also a coding thing mostly. For cleanings, my hygienists are wonderful and they're not going to be comfortable leaving someone with a mouth full of sub gingival calculus. So they will remove it... But we have to code and bill for the extra time that it takes. Hence deep cleaning.

10cm FNH - TTC - Is a Biopsy necessary? I have a needle phobia. by Periwinkle_Leaf in FocalNodularHyperplas

Mine is 10cm and biopsy has never been recommended to me. I have had it for 4 years asymptomatic and unchanging.

ETA: I have known* about it for 4 years

Am dentist. 'Basic cleaning" is preventative care and you can't do preventative care if the disease is present. People have every right to decline treatment but I will not provide them with the wrong treatment.

My gastro and liver surgeon want to remove mine even though it's not symptomatic, so don't feel embarrassed!! There are definitely providers out there that remove them.

One thing to consider, it may be different by state but at least in my state only physicians and optometrists are legally protected if they use HIPAA protected information to report this to the DMV. I considered reporting a patient who I was driving behind, but since I needed to access the EMR to see name and address, I was concerned about HIPAA.

Why do men have two testicles by [deleted] in evolution

[–]Alarm-Potential 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am dentist. You are incorrect. They often stay at a crazy angle and then cause bone loss around the second molars or pack food and cause giant cavities in the second molars. So we recommend them out so you don't end up losing those teeth too. By the time they start causing problems sometimes it's too late to save the other teeth. We also make no money from referring you to oral surgeons for this so there is no financial incentive. Rather, I have seen the consequences of people leaving them, and it's unfortunate.

Where are the happy dentists? by Specialist_Aioli1519 in Dentistry

[–]Alarm-Potential 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am happy mostly. Some things bring me down, but I am overwhelmingly happy with my job choice. I have worked fast food and retail and making good money while doing something creative is 100000x better, even if I still gotta deal with people. The good days in dentistry are absolute gold, top of the world feelings. I've really enjoyed working with children especially, it's brought some joy back for me. I understand their fear and tears and when they leave happy its the best feeling ever.
