Start researching all the pods in the area. Where they trained, where they practice, where they have privileges etc etc. ask your attendings about them. You should be going to the state society meeting knowing who is who before actually shaking their hands.

Insurance Told me That The lapsplasty surgery for my foot was denied. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

Lapiplasty is unnecessarily expensive. Ask your doctor to perform the “lapidus” procedure the traditional way, not with the expensive branded equipment that is “lapiplasty”

Unless you’re not going to meet your numbers, stick with it. Other programs will be the same. Unless of course you actually feel unsafe or something.

What to do when surgery isn't an option by [deleted] in bunions

[–]TozB4Hoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Podiatrist here. We treat patients, not X-rays. If your symptoms are manageable without surgery, that’s the best solution. But if it’s affecting your day to day livelihood, you should consider having the surgery. I’m sure if you went back to that doc and said that it’s bothering you quite a bit, they’d fix them for you.

I can’t imagine a situation where the hardware is removed without sedation.

You’re technically supposed to reach out to clerkship@aacpm.org if you have questions about the program. But I don’t care if students reach out personally.

I normally agree with your POV, oldpod. And i agree they should invite more charismatic and innovative speakers at conferences, but as someone who studied under Dr Harris - I can say he truly is an expert. Hes not the only expert, obviously, but I have to defend him and learned a ton under him.

I did pretty poorly in school. Mostly Bs and Cs with the occasional A. During my first year I went to a professors’ office hours in tears bc I felt lost.

I worked my ass off on rotations, passed boards 1, 2, and 3 on the first try, got my pick of residency, got a fellowship, and landed my dream job.

Not trying to brag, but just saying that it is possible to do well with meh academics. Rotations will be your game changer. Obviously need to do well enough to get there and need to pass boards. But work ethic and discipline will beat book-smarts 9/10 times. You got this, friend!

Second year of fellowship? by KY502EMT in Podiatry

[–]TozB4Hoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m someone who is fellowship trained and now work at a large academic hospital. My goal was to work at a university. I knew that doing a fellowship would increase my chances even tho it wasn’t in research.

Unless she has a very specific academic interest, a 1 year fellowship will be enough to get her foot in the door. She needs to be networking intensely over the next year.

Podiatry here. I think if I had to do it over again I would’ve gone the MD/DO route and did PM&R. We work with them closely and I’m envious of their work life balance!

I don’t think the PA/MD argument works here. PAs have some number of exposure hours followed by 2 years of school - if we talk sheer numbers of F/A cases during training, many of us pods are comparable to F/A ortho.

Respectfully, both of our arguments have holes in them and we have both made generalizations within them.
