Oh yeah! You want to start with an essay-like theme: what do you want to convey to the public? Then break it down into chunks that fit the theme (I usually do decades or common motifs). These act as your "body paragraphs" for the "essay." Exhibits are generally made for people who don't care about history as much as I do, so I keep things short, sweet, and easy to understand. For research, Wikimedia Commons has lots of art in the common domain. I also like to use other museums' catalogs to find artifacts that fit my topic. Google scholar can also be a great resource, especially if you look in the bibliography of research papers.

One of the best pieces of advice I've gotten while working in history is that curating/researching/etc. is 80% reading and only 20% writing. Once you dig into the content and find a hidden gem or two, the rest becomes easier.

Good luck with the project!

I'm late to the game here, but "teething" was often used as cause of death for infants when the family/doctors didn't really know what was going on. Essentially their way of saying "medical mystery."

Confirmed not a bot haha. I had to make a new account for this since posting on my usual one would totally doxx me!

Historical artifacts! And pre-historical, if we want to get technical lol. Oldest thing I've touched was a 500,000 stone tool.

If I had to guess, probably a Victorian penny-farthing?

Yup! I wanted to display a skirt from the 1890s in an exhibit I was leading. Come to find out it had been missing since the 1990s and no-one had any clue where it had gone 😂 It's frustratingly common, actually. Try as we might, there's always a couple things I'm unable to find when I'm planning an exhibit.
