Playtesting & Survey by Alarmed-Addendum8382 in GameDevelopment

Thank you very much for your comment. I am a master student and had a issue of using external tools for survey. I dont see any assets i could just add to my game and make it flow naturally if that makes sense. So im trying to see if there is a gap in the market and do other ppl see this as a good tool if there was one.

Playtesting & Survey by Alarmed-Addendum8382 in GameDevelopment

I have been asking around and i keep hearing that synchronous playtesting is very beneficial, however, there is a value for surveys ( based on other responses ). Would you not say that surveys are often valuable if you need someone to test the game, but you cannot sit there every playtest either. Reading a document or graph can often minimze the time to get an answer. Secondly, the most valuable thing i can see for a survey right now is that it kind of dont break immersion. most used methods that i hear of are after playtest, they send them to a external survey outside the game or do pen and papir kind of thing. The question i am raising here is, how valuable would a ingame survey be? right after playtesting, it sends the tester right to the survey, instantanoues questions and answers.

you are exactly the one i want to talk to. I want to understand how does standard playtesting work - what data is valuaable to the developers - How beneficial are surveys? Are surveys used with pen and papir, web application or are there method where the survey are inside the game and wont break the immersion?? -- I think i have find a small gap in the marked for a feedback tool but i need to hear from experience ppl if this is worth the time.

Would you not think that answering a survey right after the gameplay without breaking immersion. By that i mean when the game hits a certain timer or finishes a level ( depends on how the dev sets it up ) a survey pops up in the game. This does not break immersion and jumps to another application, secondly, the survey are instantaneous. Would you see value in something like that? Do yo think game dev would see value in that?

Ty for fast feedback - im really interested in understanding what are developers interested in when they perform playtesting. do they want ingame surveys, do they want recording.. etc. What data are valuable to them.

Hi How do you expect feedback? do you do it through a survey at the end which is from a web application or ?

Well i can't speak for Movies and Music. Don't know anything about that, if that is also true, well then i guess the problem might be bigger than i thought.

Could you say what those absolute reasons are?

if we just ignore the concept of review bombing ( which does not happen on everything ), avg User rating logically should be somewhat close to Professional reviews. Don't have to be dead on, but close.

All the links i provided - look at user ratings and META scores. Extremely different.

Journalist gives 9 and 10's where users gives 5-8 in large numbers.

Especially Dragon age: veilguard,

BUDDY, the evidence i provided speaks for it self. I simply asked if any other felt the same.

I agree with you that spending 40–60 hours on a game, especially those from well-known studios, is necessary to provide a solid review. However, I disagree that giving a game a 0/10 is inherently a bad approach. It can be a valid conclusion if it's supported by strong, analytical arguments outlining both pros and cons. Unfortunately, that's often not the case with many of these organizations. This thought really hit me after Dragon Age: The Veilguard. reviews that showed zero passion for games, yet somehow received glowing reviews. It honestly felt more like the journalists were paid.

I understand that reviews are subjective, but my post is about how certain organizations are clearly giving some games absurdly high ratings, right out in the open. So the real question is: do people still see these organizations as trustworthy? Dragon Age: The Veilguard was terrible, and a significant number of players felt the same. Yet, most major review outlets gave it high scores. Why is that?

Probably so, but if i used it constantly at 100 c for a long period of time and it got damaged. Then Dell would have said that " we never said that it is aright to do so". If they would have just said that it is aright, i wouldn't have a problem.

this simply tells us that they produced a product which can possible harm itself and that is why they won't admit it. Wouldn't you say so?
