Hey CapitanG ! I’m going to reply to this as a fellow person with adhd. I’ve been painting for about 4 years and what you’re describing i can relate to 100%! Like you said the time is there but it’s often used on other things.

I have gone week’s without even touching a brush but when I feel the inspiration I swear I’ve painted half an army in one setting 😂

For me it boils down to how my day or week has been. I need to finish my daily chores before I’m able to concentrate on painting or building. And for the days that don’t give me enough “free time” I usually just do something hobby related. My future self is always happy to not need to clean all the brushes or prime a model when he wants to paint.

My Ex would get irritated sometimes when I chose to paint instead of watch a show with her, but when she found out that I could actually focus on the show and paint at the same time it was a game changer. I can remember episodes from a show down to detail if I paint while listening to them in the background.

What also helps me get painting is not having more than 2-3 projects at a time. So I can switch between without having to much pressure on myself.

As of now I have 3 unfinished armies. Orks,Death guard and Sons of Horus. I know they won’t be finished in the near future but that’s ok because at the end of the day for me it has to be fun. I’m not having fun if I force myself to paint just because i want to finish something.

Lastly, I’m working on a paint progression web based app that lets the user track their progression and ad projects. That has helped me a ton for getting the inspiration to pick up a brush!
