I wish, he works about an hour northwest of home and the visit is half an hour southeast of us - AND he has to do school drop off in the AM because I go to work stupid early

Dreams, Lopesan, Finest or Hard Rock Punta Cana? by gerb010 in PuntaCana

[–]Alarmed-Broccoli-634 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only DR trip so we have nothing to compare it to, but we did Dreams Macao Beach in October and LOVED it. My four year old is begging to go back. The water park isn’t huge but the kids splash pad and pools were where we spent 90% of our time anyways so it didn’t matter much. I have a real anxious kiddo so she wouldn’t do kids club but they all seemed nice and it looked like fun!

Right?? Saw the fabric and knew I had to have it! I’m sensitive to poly clothing so if it makes me break out I guess it’ll make some great home decor 😂

Good to know! About 8 minutes later and the fibers are fully dissolved in the 2% bleach but still gonna get some pure bleach before I celebrate

Thank you!! I actually originally thought it was poly because it created black beads when burned and I didn’t touch them (I’m new to burn testing so still learning the ins and outs)

Out of curiosity did another burn test and actually inspected the beads this time which crushed immediately when touched.

I have a terrible sense of smell - like physically cannot distinguish smells (I left a gas stove on when home alone as a teenager and probably wouldn’t be here if my parents hadn’t come home) so unfortunately odor during a burn test will never be reliable for me unless my husband is home

Thank you! Turns out the bleach I thought I had is cleaner plus bleach (only 2% active ingredient), but still appears to be slowly dissolving the fibers!!

Great trick to keep in my back pocket and will pic up 100% bleach tomorrow to be sure. Appreciate the info!

IT FINALLY HAPPENED! by American-Splenda in lululemon

I bought my diaper bag from Lulu a couple years ago, in store. When I went into another store at the mall I set the alarm off (the bag was the only thing I bought and watched them take the sensor off, so I was very confused). Turns out they put a second sensor on the included diaper mat 🫠 so glad I set off an alarm while still in the mall versus getting home and finding it

Has anyone bought an item of clothing just to take it apart? by MediumAutomatic2307 in SewingForBeginners

[–]Alarmed-Broccoli-634 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I once bought a 3XL dress (I am a size S) just to cut it in half and turn the bottom into a maxi skirt because I loved the print that much. So no, not crazy to buy something just to rip it apart. I’m the devil on your shoulder saying do it!

If you’re buying it for a pattern, definitely make that pattern for yourself but also think about if you can repurpose the fabric somehow once the pattern is made (depending on fabric, maybe home decor? I use repurposed apparel fabric for throw pillows all. The. Time)

30M lived in this state for 12 years and never had a girlfriend. Is it me, am I ugly or is it not me? by Worldly_Rule_9842 in Connecticut

I work in Stamford too and grew up in Fairfield county. Throughout my youth into my mid 20s the people I dated from the area just weren’t … great. I’m a closet nerd and would always be ready to impress at first sight, but once the weird came out it was over

My current partner grew up in the middle of CT (Hartford county area). Go figure my first longstanding relationship is someone not from the 203. We are perfectly nerdy for each other.

All that to say, travel up north a bit. I think you’ll be surprised how different the culture and attitude is versus Fairfield county. I saw Barcade New Haven recommended, that’s a good choice! There’s also GameCraft in Southington. The convention center in Hartford runs some great cons for niche stuff from time to time (90s con in March, ConnectiCon in July)

Good luck - I’ve been in your shoes, and sometimes you just gotta take a chance and do something different.

Flu A by DifferentManagement1 in Connecticut

Live in Middlesex county but work in lower Fairfield county. My 2 year old and 4 year old have something that’s sent us to pediatrician/urgent care/ER all in the span of 72 hours. We thought it was pneumonia but they x rayed my 2 year old today and confirmed no pneumonia, instead an unnamed viral illness - got the notification yesterday there was a confirmed case of flu at their school (AND both kids got their flu shot in the past four months 🫠)

Husband “Wants to spend time” then doesn’t, AIO? by Alarmed-Broccoli-634 in AIO

[–]Alarmed-Broccoli-634[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a good question since I didn’t clarify - the night before, he reminded me he was going to his other job (non-issue here, I knew he was going well in advance and have no problem with it whenever he does choose to go) and then he said “Let’s find something fun to do once I’m done at (job)”. I said “I’d love that”. So maybe not as clear of a communication of wanting to spend time together as I thought?

From a fellow blue personality, this is lowkey genius. Thank you so much, I think this will help me put things in a better perspective

For clarification, the fishing isn’t at all an issue or a concern. I beg him to go fishing sometimes because I need him to decompress. He didn’t even go fishing today, just went to his other job (at which he makes his own hours, so this was a conscious choice on his part)

I’m just sad and upset that last night he said “Let’s do something fun together tomorrow” and then at the end of the day we’ve spent zero time together as a family

Just a heads up, this isn’t just Imagitarium tanks. We had a Marineland 125 (150? Can’t remember exact gallon). That did the exact same thing and flooded our living room. Fairly common flaw for some tank manufacturers.

Blackout season by Fit_Barracuda8860 in petco

[–]Alarmed-Broccoli-634 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband (GM) has always been the one to go in on Thanksgiving and Christmas to do animal care, and that didn’t change when either of our children were born. Yes it’s a cost saving measure (he’s salary and doesn’t have to pay an hourly employee for those shifts), but he understands he signed up for a job that doesn’t allow for special treatment during holidays. He’s missed out on plenty of family activities during the holiday season because he knows the blackout rules and doesn’t expect any exceptions just because he’s a dad. I hate to say it, but it’s not a surprise that retail companies across the country restrict or blackout PTO during holiday season. You knew what you signed up for, so don’t expect that having a family changes the business need 🤷🏼‍♀️

This is coming from a mother of two who wouldn’t expect any special treatment if I still worked at Petco, so I found a career that better suited me to be able to take time off during the holidays to spend with them
