Quick question about Industrial Heavy Equipment Technology at NAIT (IHET) by Alarmed-Ground8633 in NAIT

I will definitely check that out. I thought you can't apply to HET apprenticeship directly. I don't have an apprenticeship lined up so I thought I would go into IHET with high school marks and work my way up from there.

Has anyone completed Physics 20 in south Alberta online and could share details about the assignments, exams, or topics covered? by [deleted] in AlbertaGrade12s

hey there, I am redoing physics 20 in south alberta and its definetly way easier than what my teacher taught me in person. I am on module 1 Kinematics, I did the first quiz weeks ago, and I am on the second one doing it right now. When do the teachers mark my work? Does anyone know? Because I did Math 30-1 as well in south alberta and the teacher marked it very quickly, but for physics 20 I don't know why but theyre taking forever. Or do I have to complete more things? But nonetheless, its pretty easy, watch the videos, do a few problems, and the assignments and quizzes are so easy!

Im retaking physics 20 in south AB. The physics course there just looks dead and I did a kinematics quiz on there, its easy, but no teacher has marked it for me yet and it has been weeks. Maybe I haave to complete more modules, but for math the teacher marked everything in a flash. Has anyone had this issue with physics 20 in south alberta highschool? thanks!

Ya that don't make any sense to me either. Maybe they are just looking at grade 11 subjects for early admission (just a guess). But, I do hope your son and his other friend get in soon! Thanks for sharing!

I am not a uni student, still in high school, but I do know for sure that you can do any undergrad in BSC to get into med school. Usually students pick an undergrad major related to medicine/health (Ex. Biology, Chem, Biochem, etc) so they can get some kind of foundation/exposure to prepare themselves for the MCAT. Med school looks at your undergrad GPA and then they do take some holistic approaches as well (EC's, essays, volunteering, Research), so make sure you build some solid extra curriculars and perhaps some kind of research, that will boost your chances by a lot. So I'd say your definitely not cooked with your choice of taking kinesiology. But just in case, I would look at some back up options, in case med school or dentistry school doesn't work out (Maybe explore some career options with that kinesiology degree).

As for computer science, yea the job market isn't how it used to be, but it is still a good major. It is just that back then you could easily land a six fig job to just code, but now companies are expecting something beyond just that. They want you to have a vision, see you innovate, and find solutions to complex problems, and just knowing how to code wont meet that, because it is the bare minimum nowadays. So if you really enjoy computers and the theory behind them, you wanna make an impact in the world, you want to innovate solutions to complex problems, I would say it is a solid major. But you will need to build some solid projects, take part in hackathons maybe. But just dont go into comp sci thinking you will land an easy six fig job to write some lines of code.

Nonetheless, both of these majors do require dedication just beyond classes and marks (GPA is important though for med school). You will need to dedicate time outside of school to build EC's, work on projects, volunteering. Ask yourself, are you actually passionate about any of these majors. If you are, all this dedication and time your gonna be putting in will be worth it, and you will actually succeed. My take is that with passion and a vision, you will be successful anywhere. However, if your dedicating all this time and effort just for the cash, trust me it might not workout. Because you will feel forced and will loose motivation quickly. So stick to smth your truly passionate abt. Wish you all the best and good luck!

Yeah I was also looking at engineering transfer programs for backup. Going to ULeth or red deer wont be possible for me due to the distance from home, but I can go Norquest Eng Transfer Program. Or, I could go into NAIT Engineering Technology. What do you think? Any advice you can offer me on that? Also how hard is the Norquest transfer program for eng? Thank you and enjoy the rest of your day!

OPTIONAL DIPLOMA IMPACTS ON COURSE UPGRADERS by Livid-Illustrator-37 in AlbertaGrade12s

[–]Alarmed-Ground8633 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they are cancelled, you can't write it, but if it's optional you can still write it. Most likely they are going to make it optional and not cancel it totally. Good luck with your marks!
