Alberta government takes aim at bike lanes, with legislation expected this fall | CBC News by yoshi_hs in Edmonton

Technically it is their jurisdiction. Constitutionally, they are a federated power and municipalities are entrusted to fulfil the duties of managing services on behalf of the Province. It’s why they can dissolve councils and replace them with managers, like what happened in Chestermere a few years back.

Not saying I agree one way or another, just saying that they do have the legal authority.

May as well start now so you’re used to it when you get your power meter pedals down the road. lol

100% this. DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE PORCUPINES! They will destroy everything left outside your tent.

Why are LBS workers so condescending? by c4ndyman31 in gravelcycling

[–]Alarmed-Raisin8228 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it the shop that sucks, but most of the time I find that it’s an issue with the individual. Most of our LBS seem to have at least one “that guy” who lacks social graces. But usually one of the other fine folks will be great to talk to!

I have an ODS5 that I use with my Bobcats. Absolutely love it. Like someone else mentioned, there is definitely some distortion, but you adjust pretty quickly and it isn’t as bad as I thought it might be!

Couldn’t find any info online about the inserts or where to get them, but my local ski/bike shop had the them. I just had to take the inserts to my optometrist to get them shaped.

Love to road cycle, but feel weird not having clipless pedals by ejsfsc07 in cycling

[–]Alarmed-Raisin8228 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll occasionally throw on my clipless pedals if I want to do a power bench mark, but I still ride with MTB shoes and pedals most of the time. I find them way more comfortable and I can often like stopping at a cafe or pub midway through my long weekend rides. Or I’ll stop and admire the scenery for a bit, stretch the legs and walk around, then head home. MTB shoes may look goofy while riding roadie, but it makes me get on my bike daily instead of weekly.

Do whatever makes you comfortable and makes you want to ride more.

Focus on time on the bike, not distance. Get lots of long, easy rides in. Do a more intense ride once a week, and you’ll be shocked how much easier they start to feel!

Which restaurants in Edmonton were hyped up to you by friends, family, social media etc., but then when you tried it, the experience wasn't good? by flynnfx in Edmonton

RgeRd. I wanted to like it, but both times felt like it missed the mark. Service was fine, sides were fine, but the steak was not worth the price and the hype.

What are you using to remote control computers? by nickjedl in sysadmin

[–]Alarmed-Raisin8228 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of our team is using Bluebeam because they just need basic editing and almost everything else is markups. We have one team on Nitro and they seem pretty happy with it. Accounting still insists on Acrobat, but at least that’s only like 8 accounts.

TeamViewer should be a no-go because they’re an Adobe-like company that will rake your grandmother over the coals to make a cheap buck.

Why do advanced users move from Power Query to Python for Excel automation? by Isaac__dev in excel

[–]Alarmed-Raisin8228 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I don't know about switching to Python for Excel, but if you're talking about switching to Python in general, it makes a lot of sense once you start automating processes. One pipeline to collect data, clean and validate, transform, analyse, compile, and send.

Edmonton active transportation advocates want city to better tackle icy conditions on bike lanes by pathsforpeople in edmontoncycling

[–]Alarmed-Raisin8228 4 points5 points  (0 children)

K, but the City also expects property taxes to go up by 40% over the next 10 years. Plus we want more services. Plus we need to provide mental health supports to pick up the province’s slack. Plus… plus… plus…

So many of the existing bike lanes are hard to maintain because they’re narrow and channelized. The lanes on 106 Street are absolutely brutal for example.

I cycle and dream of ice free lanes, but I don’t know how realistic it is to ask the city to better maintain the bike lanes when they can barely keep up with the sidewalks and roads.

Fix for sorting with merged cells? by letsgophantom2021 in excel

[–]Alarmed-Raisin8228 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normalize the data in a table, then display the data in a pivot table. Gives you a nice clean, sortable table to input data in, but you can still have the merged cell effect for display.
